On these steam mops, you have to use distilled water, if you use tap water and do not have a house water softner or some kind of water filtration system, the water running thru the tubes of the steam mop
will develop calcium deposits, these deposits are caused by hard water and will clog up the tubes, and keep the mop from producing steam, then you will have to replace the lines. i own this brand of steam
mop and had the same problem you had, I replaced the lines and started using distilled water, and have not had any problems since and that was last year. good luck!
OK. This is an actual guaranteed solution to the Shark "No Steam" problem. The problem is well documented as hard water clogs the steam mops head. And using distilled water should prevent problem (not confirmed). But now that you have the problem, how do you unclog?
First off, Ive had two now. And my solution probably invalidates 1 year warranty, but I'm not interested in going through all the rigamarole of taking my mop back to the store. Maybe yours has expired or you want solution now like me.
This requires a drill. If you've tried the white vinegar route like me and it hasn't worked, and the toothpick, now it's time to get serious.
Remove the four screws. Then slide connection back and remove final two screws. Try blowing thru the small round hole at the end of the connector. If you can't blow through it, the smallest choke point near the hole is your problem.
Using the smallest drill bit in the standard drill set (not sure the size but it fits easily in the hole with room to spare) drill gently into the hole until it breaks thru the first resistance. Now blow through the hole. It should blow through easily now. Run some white vinegar thru to loosen up and remove other hard water deposits if you like.
Replace nozel. Replace two screws, Replace 4 screws. Done.
Use only bottled distilled water from now on would probably be a good idea.
In my opinion the problem is a design flaw built in by the Shark people. Appropriate name. Its called planned obsolescence. :( It breaks, you buy a new mop head (or entire mop if you can't find their part's website.)
No Steam Final Solution!
I've tried everyone's solutions to my mop not producing steam just water drops that pool on the floor. I've only used the shark mop 10 times before no steam was produced. Non of the website solutions fixed the problem until I unscrewed the body of the shark (9 screws) where I found the problem. The white hose attached to the water tank had popped off. I reattached it, and now I have steam! One note: the screws were very hard to back out. You might want to try a drill with a long screwdriver attachment. Good Luck.
First, let me say this... USE ONLY DISTILLED WATER! You should never have a problem with "STEAM" COMING OUT OF YOUR "STEAM MOP" ever again. Yes, I know right about now you want to punch me in the face or maybe screaming obsenities at me via your computer screen! I know telling you the obvious, after the fact is not what you want or need to hear, but I say this only now because it was hard lesson I too had to learn. Moving on... It is truly silly that no steam is being producted from your "steam mop" which it\'s ONLY function is to produce STEAM... right! The ONE & ONLY THING it is designed to do... it simply decides to stop... after a min. of 7 uses. Am I the only one who has a problem with this? Why do I feel like I\'m being screwed, lied to and blatantly mislead? Hmmm? Anyway.. THEY (being the manufacturer aka. shark) know well that this is a design flaw in the product. IT SHOULD BE WELL NOTED IN THE ""BEGINNING""" OF THE MANUAL that ""ONLY"" DISTILLED WATER should be used & AGAIN, a STRONG emphasis on distilled water only! Not water, not any water, not Aqua, not H20, but Distrilled Water. This is only noted at the very end in the troubleshooting section of manual, Oops... too late.. sorry folks, but hey the good news is, WE WILL SELL YOU ANOTHER ONE (ching). However, in hopes of helping some poor soul from wasting an entire day or worse throwing it out.. Please don\'t give up.. There is a solution. Clean it out with distilled water, white vinegar, or CLR, & with a little poking and patience, you will back to 99.9% germ free home. I\'ve personally found that mixing the vinegar with distilled water works best (patience, depending on the serverity, it will take some time or even soaking over night) and once the desposits loosen up.. you can then (gently) clean out the air flow at the mop base.. (where the steam flows out) and you should be back in business, that is of course unless you have additional lines clogged, but start here. They design this stuff to break! No worries. It will work. Good luck and Happy Cleaning!!
