There is another process to get into descale mode on some 7.1 machines. I got this from Illy Support: Descale Cycle • Turn off machine • So the usual filling if container with descale fluid • Turn machine on and within 15 seconds from power on – press and hold in the big cup button until it gives 4 acoustic signals and then release your finger. • The big blue cup button should now be flashing • Press the big blue cup button once – the machine will now dispense water intermittently from the coffee group head and the steam arm and the steam and coffee button will be flashing alternately • Once the descaling cycle has completed it will give out a long acoustic signal • The coffee button will continue to flash Rinsing Cycle • Remove the water tank – wash out and fill with clean fresh water just over the MAX level • Empty the container holding 1 litre of water and reinstate back under coffee group head and point steam arm in container. • Press the flashing big cup button once • Water will again dispense intermittently from group head and steam arm • An acoustic signal will sound out as soon as the rinsing cycle is complete. • The Big Blue coffee button will be steadily lit • Remove 1 litre container. • Remove water tank – clean and refill with clean water
–red light should now be off and ready to make coffee
Their appears to be a scale build up inside the valve that dispenses the water when demanded. This is an electrical solenoid much like in fridge water dispensers but smaller. The scale is not letting the valve close completely after dispense. On a regular brewer running vinegar thru the machine a couple of cycles will usually dislodge the obstruction in the valve. If you can manually add water to the brewer, you should add the vinegar instead to clean the valve. Otherwise you may have to disassemble locate the valve and soak in descaler, or vinegar.
I realize you think it does not need descaling to to it 'not being used much.'
However you may have hard water and I would think descaling is definitely worth a try. There might be scale built up on the water level probes in you machine.
I was searching for this solution then I found the manual in a draw so to help anyone else with the same problem the method is: Descaling should be carried out every 3 months. Fill the appliance to max. Dispense maximum size cup to a large cup. Add descaler to the cup then pour back into appliance. Dispense the mixture in the appliance into the cup and disgard. Continue until applance is at minimum water level. Empty the appliance then refill with water and run it through the machine and disgard until its at minimum then empty the appliance again. It should be ready for use. You can use 1ltr white (and only white) vinegar instead of the descaler and water mixture.
NOTE: Not my instructions i just found something similar.
According to the instructions for Breville Hot Cup (presumably similar to yours - the adjustable flow one): 1. Fill it to the max and dispense one cup of water. 2. Add a citric based descaling product into the cup and stir. 3. Tip contents into kettle and close lid. 4. Dispense water from the kettle, discarding the water until it reaches the 'min' mark. 5. Empty remaining water into sink, rinse out with clean water. 6. Fill kettle with fresh water and dispense cups of water until it reaches the 'min' mark. Empty the rest into the sink, then refill ready for use.
unfortunatly keurig treats any home model as throwaway once warrenty is up. They even do the same with mostcommercial models. By the sounds of your problems its time for a new one. sorry. try for a b145 or b150 they are a little more robust.
Not too sure sort of same issue on last machine i descaled it and it worked on this one not so lucky so looking for answers too, if you often descale your machine then it wont be this if you havent descaled it for some time, then this could well be your issue, pending on how knowlagable you are, you can take to bits, put CRC or neat descaler into the tubes, there is a little spring clip type of holder you need to take out before removing small tube, use a serynge and squirt some neat descaler into tube and if possible where it came out of, few time before my main issue was at the front water dispenser part, so if you can undo a tube from the furthest point from this then put in descaler attach tube again, put back to gether leave for a little to get through then turn on and try to get hot water out, if so the coffee side will probably work too, but before you have a cup fully descale the machine and rinse through a few times then try a cup
After many months, I solved the problem of the red light staying on the Tassimo Coffee Maker. Use these easy steps.
1. Fill a 2 cup measuring cup with hot water.
2. Mix in descaler.
3. Pour in the empty water tank.
4. Put the yellow cleaning disk in the chamber and close chamber. Put the two cup measuring cup under the spout.
5. Push and hold the brew button for about 3 seconds (until the red and green light flash.
6. Now don't touch the machine. It will do it's thing for about 20 minutes. (Don't be impatient and start to push buttons, just leave it)
7. When it finishes it's cycle. The red light will turn off. Then clean the water tank and put fresh water and run clean water through the brewing cycle 4 times. Your machine is now ready for use.
It needs to be descaled. Even though the descale light might not be on yet, the descale light only comes on when it is in SERIOUS need of a descaling. You should descale once every 3 months.
Fill reservoir with distilled white vinegar and leave the machine on for 4 hours (make sure to turn off the auto off option).
after 4 hours, run the vinegar through the machine until the reservoir is empty. Refill with water and repeat twice. you will notice a difference right when you start running vinegar through.
