I just to the screws out from the bottom of the globe and took the little panel off near the battery panel. The pen is wired in with a rca jack and if we cant find replacement pens for it...it would be easy to replace. Any suggestions

The stylus pen on my Junior Explorer Globe is no longer working. What can I do?

    Answer

If the pen suddenly stops working without any physical damage, LeapFrog will replace the pen free of charge. However, we recommend that you try cleaning the pen first. Unplug the stylus pen and wipe both the plug and the jack with a dry cotton swab.

If the pen still doesn't work, send it to:

    LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc.
    Stylus Pen Replacement
    563 N. Fairview Street
    Santa Ana, CA 92703

If the pen was physically damaged (your dog chewed it, your child ripped the cord, etc.) the replacement cost is $5 to cover shipping and handling. There is no need to send the damaged pen back in this case. Simply click Ask a Question above and send email to our Consumer Services team to let us know you would like to order a new pen.

If you have any difficulty removing the pen that isn't working or installing the new pen, please contact our Consumer Services department at 1-800-701-5327 for assistance.

I just solved this by replacing some capacitors in the unit. I found in the globe section there were only 2 capacitors (220uf 10v 85deg). Capacitors have a limited life, and while I know almost nothing about electronics I learned this trick fixing other appliances. Anyway, I replaced the two in the globe and no luck, then since I had a spare I looked in the base section and found one more capacitor matching those I'd bought so I replaced that one and it's working perfectly now, total cost of $2.86. I suspect I only needed to replace the one in the base unit but I'll never know.
I hope this helps someone. Opening the globe is a bit tricky so feel free to contact me for help. I can be contacted by the feedback form at www.flowershop.com.au rather than posting my email address to all the spammers of the world. ;)

Hi, We live in Australia and I am having difficulty finding the Leap Frog interactive globe. Big W used to sell them. I also require a replacement pen. The US site won't deliver outside the US. ...

Hi Dani,
I've seen these units in BigW and Myers in Brisbane. We bought one damaged which I fixed by replacing some capacitors, if the reason you want a replacement pen is because you have one that stopped working it's possible the capacitors are just worn out, they have a limited life. If you know someone handy with a soldering iron they can be replaced for a few dollars in parts, but an hour or two of labour!

Pen won't work on Quantum Leap Exporer Globe

ok, last night I was doing some research on my daughters leapster, its not a quantum leap, but maybe can be fixed the same way. I found out that you can "recalibrate" the machine. I used the instructions for the leapster, but here is what they said about the Quantum:

Turn the power on. Wait until you see the "Home" screen.
Find the small hole in the back of your Pixter unit above the battery compartment door. That’s the calibration hole.
Insert, push and hold the stylus in the calibration hole. Turn Pixter over so that you can see the screen. When you see two plus signs, remove the stylus from the calibration hole.
First touch the plus sign in the upper left corner with the tip of the stylus.
Then touch the plus sign in the lower right corner with the tip of the stylus.

GOOD LUCK, HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU, I ALMOST THREW MINE OUT TOO AND NOW IT WORKS.
