MSI MS-6754 mother board won't boot and beeps when I swap processors

I've got a working PC with a MSI MS-6754 mother board with a 1.8 Celeron 478 pin processor and 1GB of RAM. I removed the processor and installed a 2.66 Pentium and the PC will not boot and the motherboard beeps. From what I've read on the internet, the beeping is a sign of bad RAM. I tried a 2.4 Pentium processors and the same thing, beeping. I put the Celeron back in and works great. The manual for the Motehrboard says any P4 processor up to 2.8GHz will work. I'm left scratching my head! What gives?

Thanks Dileep! You pointed out that my motherboard was a 400MHZ FSB. I was trying to install a 533 MHZ FSB P4 processor. I finally got a 400 MHZ FSB P4 processor and now it works!

Have you installed the latest bios on that motherboard, they were built in 2003 you know and often the motherboard manufacturers would leave updates necessary to run some processors for the next bios update. Also, you checked your jumpers according to your manual. Go back over them again to verify frequency, multiplier, and voltages are set for the P4 processor that you are trying to install. If that isn't done, you will get exactly what you are seeing. Be happy you have a manual, use it.
There were two versions of that motherboard, one with Lan and one without, which one do you have?

Ya know. I was trying a 533 FSB processor I see now that my motherboard only supports 400! Standby. Let me get a 400 and see if it cures my ills! Ahhhhh............

Dear Sir, my mother board d101 has been damaged can i use of p4sd m/b insted of that while i want all rest parts remain using i dont want change ram,SMPS, Proccesser etc.

fbhushan, the Intel D101GGC motherboard (Grand Country) supports;

1) Intel Pentium 4, Intel Celeron D, and Intel Pentium D processors that fit in an
> LGA 775 processor socket.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_775

The Processor has the socket holes, and the processor socket (LGA 775) has the pins.
775 socket holes, and 775 pins.

The Front Side Bus (FSB) can be either 533MegaHertz, or 800MHz.

2) Supports DDR Sdram ram memory at either 333MegaHertz or 400MHz.
(PC2700 and PC3200, respectively)

Will support Up To 2GB of ram memory.
Has two ram memory slots. The maximum amount for EACH slot is 1GB

3) The SMPS used for it has,
A) One 24-pin ATX main power cable

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

B) One 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

The Intel D101GGC motherboard has Four SATA headers (Connectors) on it, so I'm going to assume you are using a SATA harddrive.
This would mean the SMPS you are using should have at least one SATA power cable.

It should also have an assortment of 4-pin standard Peripheral power cables.
(Misnomered as 'Molex')

The Asus P4SD (Motherboard chipset Intel 865PE) supports;

1) Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron processors that fit in a > Socket 478 processor socket

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_478

The Processor has the pins, and the processor socket has the socket holes.
478 pins, and 478 socket holes.

Your Processor will NOT work.

The Ram Memory WILL work.

The SMPS MAY work.

I state MAY because the Asus P4SD motherboard uses a 20-pin ATX main power cable.

If the last four pins of the 24-pin ATX main power cable that you have on your SMPS right now, Do Not remove, you can Carefully cut them off. Wrap them up, and out of the way.
If you need guidance on this I can help instruct you.

You need an IDE (PATA) harddrive, or a SATA adapter card to use a SATA harddrive.

So there you have it sir.
Regards,
joecoolvette

Check video cable pins. Check disk drive connector...make sure they are pushed in tight on mobo and drive connector.
