Hi, do you still need a solution? I just took apart my tower to clean out the dust. I can post pictures of where the levers are to open the tower but don't see the point if you no longer need help.

I do not have the same model as you but generally all covers come off in a similar way. first have a look round the tower and you should see screws mainly at the back, have a good look at the screws because some hold components to the cover inside. you need to look for screws that are right on the edge of one side, generally larger than any other, undo them, then check the bottom of the tower on the same side as these ecrews, remove them, then the side that had the screws should slide towards the back, it may seem a little stiff, but should slide backwards a few centimetres and then fall, off loosely. hope this helps

Hardrive removal

Simple as pie... you will see the harddrive mounted horizontally in a small shelf after you tae the cover off. You have to unscrew the philips screws that hold it in the shelf and unplug the connectors. make sure you label the wires so you know which ones came from that harddrive... they is usually room for 2 harddrives and two complete sets of connectors, don't mix them up. (One is the master and the other called a slave.) There is an adapter for the harddrive that you should always keep should you need to replace the harddrive, (comes in two pieces on either side) the new ones don't come with the adapters to fit them in the case; they are bare bones. If you don't want to go through the gymnastics of taking the other tower apart and installing the 2nd harddrive in it to read it... an internal HDD adapter can be purchased from Tiger Direct for a nominal cost. I allows you plug you internal HDD into a USB socket in any PC (desktop or laptop) and read it as you would a Flashdrive.

My emachine tower won't turn on . I try un plugging it and plugging back and it doesn't work. Could it be that there something wrong with the motherboard or the hardrive?

> won't turn on

Remove the side-panel, and then press the ON button.
Do any fans start to turn? Feel any air coming out of the back of the power-supply?
Does pressing the button open/close the CD/DVD tray?
If not, then your power-supply has "blown", and must be replaced.

If the fans do turn, and the tray opens, but nothing happens on the screen,
e.g., no "splash" screen, nor any brief white-text "hardware-summary" appears,
then it's either the CPU or the motherboard which is the problem.

If you see the "splash" screen, or that "summary" screen, but Windows does not start to load, then the disk-drive either is not getting any power, or its "data" cable is not connected, or the disk-drive itself has "died".

It's time to take it to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting.

HELP MY HARD DRIVE HAS GONE!

Ok to understand this , you dropped a 1 TB hard-drive external hard drive on the floor? Well considering that it is a external, the cases in most externals are meant to take a beating as well as the hard-drive it self. There is two possiblities I can think of, what could of happened. When the Hard-Drive hit the floor, it could of is disconnected the connection on the hard-drive itself inside the casing, which you will have to pop it open and reseat it. Or the hardrive, arm inside the hard-drive it self snapped or is misplaced, which is unrepairable. Open up the casing and looking for the hardrive it self. Towards the back of the hard-drive is where the connection of th drive is, it is eather sata or orginal set up with his pins based. Take the connection off and put it back on and see if that works, if it didnt, best advise would be is take in in and have the drive tested, see if its still operable.

Tower is making clicking noise and a reeving sound but everything is loading and running ok

Please take this time to back up all your data. This could be a sign your Harddrive is failing if it is not your harddrive it could be a fan. You need a tech to look at your system right away to prevent failure. Fans are cheap to replace but if they fail you can lose your entire computer. If its your harddrive your looking at 2-3 hours labor and hardrive replacement. Generally it is worth doing.

Need to remove a hardrive

You open the case and remove it.
Replace it with a new one.
I think this is what you are asking.
Replace it with the same kind--if it's an IDE drive, you'll need a new IDE drive. SATA drives need to be replaced with like kind.
Size doesn't usually matter except in an older system.
Once you place a new drive in the system, you'll need to run the recovery disk that came with the computer or get a copy of the same version of Windows and use the code that should be on the case.

I"m trying to hook up this Emachine and im having proble4ms connecting cdrom floppy hardrive

Hello,

An external drive would have a cable you connect to the back of your tower. An internal would not have this but would connect directly to your motherboard on the inside of your PC Tower.

Based on your follow up question it appears you want to connect to an inside pin out connection point. Is this right? And if so, what type of cable do you have that need to connect? Is it thin and round or flat and wide?

Thank you for your patience. One of use will be able to help you further once you post this information. Sorry, but we actually need to konw this in order to solve your problem.

Worldvet

Gateway Hard drive replacement

Any PATA hardrive. Parallel also known as IDE. I would go for SEAGATE barracuda, simple, effective, and a 5 year warranty.

So, you will be looking for a 3.5 parallel hard drive. Check if your computer has a partition limit, ie, pre firewire 800 machintosh G4 towers cannot take single drives larger than 120 GB.

ATX is your motherboard form factor.

Keep me posted.
