Question about Dayton Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

I have purchased a freestanding pellet (biomass) stove and am looking for an installer. However, I also need to convince the Dayton building inspector that it needs to be installed in accordance with ASTM E1509 and UL 1482 and follow NFPA 211 for chimneys, fireplaces, vents and solid burning appliances. He is insisting it is a factory built fireplace and must meet UL 127, and also insists that the exhaust be 10 feet from my property line, as it will belch smoke. I know different. Can anyone help me with these issues?

Alternative Heating Pellet Stoves and Pellet Inserts

Pellet stoves usually use wood pellets as their primary heat source. A pellet stove is defined as a stove that burns either compressed wood or biomass pellets to make heat to warm a home or other space.

Pellet stoves come as either free-standing units or fireplace pellet inserts which can be vented into an existing chimney. As an insert, you are able to replace your wood burning stove with this efficient and cost effect stove. Inserts also give the homeowner more of the look of a fireplace than that of a pellet stove. Pellet inserts can also be a great alternative for people who have busy lifestyles and are looking to get the beauty of a fire but prefer a cleaner burning renewable heat source.

Pellet stoves are freestanding structures that can give you the feeling that an old pot bellied stove did, tucked into a corner of a living room, den, or kitchen. Either the pellet inserts or freestanding stoves are a great alternative heating solution for keeping a house warm during the winter.

Many stove manufacturers recommend the using a corn and pellet mixture, but some are UL listed for many fuels other than pellets. These can include wheat, corn, sunflower seeds, and cherry pits.

Pellet stoves are a bit more efficient, burn cleaner, and are easier to use than conventional wood burning stoves. Pellet stoves often look very similar to wood stoves or fireplace inserts, however the similarities end there.

If you are considering burning alternative fuels then you will want to look into a pellet stove as a great way to heat your home. Pellet stoves and pellet insets have many great advantages over regular wood stoves that make them a practical heat for busy lifestyles.

WHAT DOES ER2 CODE MEAN ON PELLET STOVE

Which pellet stove do you have? A lot of pellet stoves have a part inside called a Draft Flow Switch the size of your palm and hook to the Draft Flow Switch is a Draft silicone hose and this will get clogged with debris you will need to look at your diagram to see if you have that on your stove. If you do you will need to "gingerly take off the hose and blow through it. and re connected to the draft flow Switch. After sometime the hoses become brittle. Another thing to look at is the exhaust at the back of the stove cleaned out and you are getting your pellet stove cleaned out by a chimney sweep.

Stove is shaking

I would suggest going to this website http://www.drolet.ca/en/installer-locator and you can find someone from Drolet who is authorized to diagnose your issue. If you can't find someone close by on the Drolet website then look for chimney sweeps through Angie's List preferably and they can help diagnose and determine the problem. First stop always default to an AUTHORIZED SERVICING DROLET service techinichian. Especially with pellet stoves, depending on the technology, these can be extremely technical with the exhaust and combustion blowers being off balance and causing the stove to shake. Without someone there to look at it and diagnose it hands on it is equivalent to when your car has a check engine light and you don't take it to a mechanic. Pellet stoves can be extremely tricky to work on. Good luck and try the manufacturer first.

We have a heilsa pellet stove model#QCPS-28000 ,its dropping pellets to fast ,how do I adjust the feed.

  1. SET THE AIR INLET DAMPERS
It is not possible for the manufacture to factory set your stove to work properly without some adjustments. The dampers help control the amount of airflow supplied for combustion.
A damper PUSHED IN all the way, maximizes concentrated air flow to the burn pot. This will maintain a robust fire.
The Auger timing is designed to be run, in most conditions, with the dampers closed.
In some areas/conditions, it mybe necessary to adjust the damper open slighty in order to slow down the flame and allow the pellets to keep pace with the rate of burn. This should be monitored closely to ensure you have the propoer feed rate established. If dampers are opened too much, the rate of burn will be very slow and the pellets will build up.
This setting needs to be fine tuned to according to your location and elevation. It is recommended that you start with the dampers pushed in to start.

I purchases an elcipse pellet stove in 1990. It still works perfectly. I need to replace the insulation blocks for the side walls and also need a new ash pan. Do you know where i can purchase these items.

Elcipse was manufactured by Warnock Hersey, but was sold to St Croix. So, their parts may be interchangeable with your stove. Try Pellet Stove Parts.com and click on other brands for St Croix.

Purchased a used Earth stove mp240 pellet stove and the auger does not move. we are looking for a manual or information on this stove it is an older stove we just don't know how old. Thank You

The auger motor is fed through a high temp. limit thermostat. It has a manual reset on the back of it that you have to press on firmly to reset it. Open the side panel on the stove and find the wiring. You will see the thermostat on the back side of the combustion chamber. Look very closely and reset it.
good luck!

What do you need to do to put a woopellet stove pipe thru wall

I'm confused by your question. If you are asking what is involved in installing a pellet stove well it varies greatly from model to model. Generally speaking, most pellet stoves will horizontally terminate behind the stove itself as opposed to running thru the roof like a woodstove does. Pellet stoves require the use of electricity for numerous functions, one of which is power venting thru this rear terminated pipe. As far as clearances to combustables, you will find that pellet stoves are very forgiving in that department, with minimal clearances required. Once again all stoves are different and they all are rated indepentently so my best advice to you is find a quality pellet stove dealer and go in and see them. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. Avoid the big box stores as they have pellet stoves at a good price but offer NO service or installation and believe me, I am in the business, you will need professional service at some point during the life of your stove so don't save a couple bucks by going cheap. You will be happier for it down the road. Good luck.
