You may need to tell the ps3 to switch the audio to the optical cable as audio comes through hdmi also. it is in the settings for the ps3 after  you have the optical cable connected, it may be confusing the ps3 and or tv  etc by having 2 audio sources. i have the same setup as you and no problem.

Samsung 2007 27" TX-T3092WH will not support HDMI or cannot see PS3?

HI,
Do one thing While PS3 is in standby mode press and hold the power button on the frond panel of PS3 for 30 seconds (factory reset). After doing this you will get video from its composite video.

Also check the hdmi If you didnt get the video through HDMI then,
PS3 out puts Full HD 1080P video through its HDMI out put. IF your tv doesn't support Full HD then it will display format not supported or Software not support.
If you want to get video through HDMI then do the following.
Connect the PS3 to any Full HD tv (friends or relatives) and go to its menu ,select HDMI settings. then down scale the video from 1080p to 1080i.
After that connect the PS3 to your tv you will surely get the video.

How do you use PS3 and DVD player with the Toshiba 32Dtu2 LCD TV?

The PS3 can be hooked up to the tv using either a HDMI cable or the old RCA (Yellow, Red, White) cables. If you are having problems viewing a picture or hearing sound, here is some trouble shooting you might want to try.

Connect the PS3 using both the HDMI and RCA cables. select the HDMI input on your tv. turn on the PS3. If you cant see a picture, press and hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps (this will take about 15 seconds). This resets the PS3 to the old RCA cables. Select the RCA input on your tv. Hopefully you can see the image and hear the PS3 now. Go to the settings on the PS3 and change the display settings to output video through the HDMI. Remember, your tv can only go as high as 1080i resolution, so you wont see anything if you select the 1080p resolution.

If this didn't work, you might have a bad signal though the HDMI cable. Unplug the tv and PS3 for atleast 30 minutes, and then connect the PS3 to the tv before you turn either one on.

If this doesn't help, then you might have a HDMI cable that isn't recognized by either your PS3 or your tv. Try replacing your HDMI cable.

Hope this helps!

Mode Not Supported

Set the PS3 to 1080i for your HL-P5663W. I verified the owners manual and this TV does not support 1080p even by PC input.

I had a 73' TV that was1080p. Well I got a brand new DLP that is 1080i. My settings on the PS3 are set to 1080p. How do i set them to 1080i if I can't see the screen?

Use the original composite (yellow, red, white) cable that came with the PS3 and connect to a composite input on the TV. This way you can see the setting for the PS3 and make your changes. Hope this helps.
