Xerox 6110 -- paper jams from hell!

Hello,

I have been searching and searching and I am trying to determine if this color laser is worth saving. I have had it for about 9 months of very light family use.

Then gradually the paper feed mechanism has gotten worse and worse. At first, if it would mis-feed or jam once every two or three times, now it cannot print at all. It either doesn't get the paper, or pulls it in, but prints vertically of center and then jams inside the printer.

What it does is that the one big roller that sucks the paper in from the paper tray, the one in the middle rear of the printer jsut over the tray, does not feed the paper in correctly. I have seen that other people have had the same problem and fixed it, but I am not sure what would work in my case.

Help! If I can't fix this soon, then I am going to have to freecycle/craigslist this thing and buy another, and that seems awfully wasteful. Is it even worth taking to a service center? That would involve a twenty minute drive, and repair costs.

I appreciate any help of advise I can possibly get. Many thanks.

Sorry, but you aren't telling me anything I haven't thought of or tried already.

I have tried both of those things already and neither worked. I need to fix the roller that is pulling the paper into the printer. I have tried cleaning it out, and as much as I can without tools, and there is no debris.

I have tried wiggling the paper tray around and removing it and putting it back in, and it worked for a while, but now even that doesn't work.

I don't think it is worth spending more than, say, a hundred dollars to repair the printer.

Thanks, but thats Xerox's web site, and I've been through that already.

I posted this problem after I had exhausted all of the resources I could find on the web. the idea is that I have exhausted everything I could find on the web, and still am unable to fix the problem.

Is there some way I can jerry-rig the roller to work? Some way I can fix the printer without paying to get it serviced?

Thanks for that info, but my question really is is it possible to fix this printer, and if so how.

OK, but how do I remove the rubber band? It is on a steel bar that can't obviously be removed. thanks --Pete

Hi,

A couple of things you can try:

  • reduce the number of blank sheets in the tray;
  • loosen the side guide of the paper stack;
  • fan the stack of blank sheet before sliding into the tray. The idea is to exercise the sheets .
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

I agree with leethedeuce. A call to the company to have it fixed would be the best solution.

If the printer is only 9 months old then the parts are still covered under warranty and you would only have to pay for labor, which should not be much. So your two best economical solutions are authorized repair under warranty if its under a year old, or replacement. I hope you found this at least helpful and if so I would greatly appreciate if you could accept and rate accordingly.
Thanks,
Lee

HI if you can see my comment please (rate ) FixYa

When you removed the roller look at the teeth on the plastic gears on the roller and inside the printer.

make sure that the Rubber/Nylon belt drive is on correctly and that it is not too loose.. It should have a little play in it.

Also if the paper is being pulled to ******* one side(feeding in)
I have seen this happen to my printers and the problem was the the belt so please post

Thank You

Just take it out the rubber roller band and clean it,this is cause the trouble. If this happens paper feed mechanism has gotten worse it means that the rollers could not pick up the paper. Try lightly rubbing a bar of soap on the rollers. Just don't overdue it.

Hope this may help you;

Having this printer reapir will really cost you much money because there are parts on it that should be replace , Its really better if you just get a new printer which will cost you less than the repair cost for this..

Good luck........

Hi,

You can rtry this home remedy once.If that doesn't help then you will have ti get it repaired.I hope this is under warranty. The cost of repair may go upto $150 or may be more.

I belive that the rollers can not pick up the paper. Try cleaning the rollers first.Or try forcing the back of the paper tray down so it did not stay in an upward position but should be placed 100% horizontal.
Goodluck..

Please don't forget to accept the solution.

Hey,

If the printer is under a year old you still got the warranty on it, try cleaning the rollers, if I remember right with alcohol?

    I hope the link works!

incase the link doesn't work heres one of the solutions offered by xerox

Solution: Remove Any Debris Inside the Machine

    1. Open the Front Cover.
    2. Remove the Imaging Unit from the printer.

      1. Remove all of the Toner (Dry Ink) Cartridges and the Waste Toner Container from the printer. See the Related Items below for additional information.
      2. Pull the Imaging Unit out of the printer using the handle on the bottom of the unit.
      3. Extend the top handle on the Imaging Unit and then grasp the handle to pull the unit completely out of the printer.

    3. Clear any debris inside the machine.
    4. Re-install the Imaging Unit.

      1. Holding the handles on the new Imaging Unit, insert and push the unit into the printer until it clicks into position.
      2. Remove the four dummy caps on the Toner Cartridge entrances of the Imaging Unit.
      3. Re-install the Toner Cartridges and the Waste Toner Container into their corresponding slots until they click into position.

    5. Close the Front Cover and make sure it is securely latched. If the cover is not completely closed, the printer will not operate.

How do i adjust heat settings in xerox 6110

If you tried to print on a transparency sheet for ink jet printers, in your laser printer, you could have damaged the heating rolls. The plastic could be molten on the roll and you won't be able to remove it without damaging the roll. As long as there is just a spec of plastic on the roll you will have paper jams. There should be transparency sheets for laser printers to, but always make sure you have those before using in a laser printer.

I have a Xerox Phaser 6180 MFP, and it keeps saying paper jam and there is no jam, what can I do?

Check the fuser for paper stuck in it.

Check that the 'paper out' sensor arm (in the fuser) is not broken. If it IS broken, you'll need a new fuser.

Xerox WorkCentre Pro 215 E2 Error Code

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Not printing

Hi ,
There may be several causes for this problem.
I will tell you one by one, and you try it.

CAUSE: 1
The printer is not
receiving power.
SOLUTION:1
Check the power cord connections.
Check the power switch and the
power source.

CAUSE:2
The printer is not
selected as the
default printer.
SOLUTION:2
Select Xerox Phaser 6110
Series as your default printer.

CAUSE:3
Check the printer for
the following:
• The printer cover is
not closed.
• Paper is jammed.
• No paper is loaded.
• A toner cartridge is
not installed.
SOLUTION:3
After locating the problem, clear it.
If a printer system error occurs,
contact your service representative.
• Close the printer cover.
• Clear the paper jam.
• Load paper.
• Install the toner cartridge.

CAUSE:4
The printer may be in
manual feed mode
and out of paper.
SOLUTION:4

to the tray and press the
button on the control panel.

reconnect it.

CAUSE:6

If possible, attach the cable to
another computer that is working
properly and try to print a
document. You can also try using a
different printer cable.

CAUSE:7
The port setting is

Printer says paper jam, but no paper is jammed

Check the following information.......
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/Paper-Jam-Error/m-p/305772#M20513
or
most of the time for a paper jam, there is a QUEUE of papers waiting to be printed. id take out the usb cable via the back of the computer {the one that connects to the printer} go into the control panel, look for printers, double click on that, find the printer, it should say {working offline} right click that, choose the uninstall/delete opts. turn off the printer. reboot the machine, wait until it boots all the way up. take the printer, turn it on, then plug back in the usb cable to the back of the machine. if it is windows either xp/vista it will auto find the usb cable and install automatically. you can then go back to the control panel, printers and it should be listed in the directory. try to right click go to properties of the printer and do a TEST PRINT, should print out.
