Question about Yamaha HTR-5150

1 Answer

NO SOUND I left my unit on overnight and the next day, I had no sound to any of the components (TV, DVD & VCR). Otherwise the unit has power and the remote works The speaker surround sound test mode works (the 2 second alternating "hiss") I can also get a very slight hiss when the volume is turned up all the way. Perhaps it may have overheated and burned out?

Hi, i had a problem with my sony unit that might be similar to yours (worth checking anyway). If the input is good and the output is missing or not there, If you can disconnect the output from the unit then check for an output from the unit . Sometime you have to remove a unit from the circuit and then check it out. If this is O.K., you have something in the rest of the circuit loading it down. But at this point you know this part is working O.K. You might find your answer somewhere down the rest of the circuit. hope this will help.

How do I hook up my dvd/vcr to the tv

On the back of the cinavision you have two groups of sockets. The yellow socket under Video out is picture. Red and white is sound. Connect them to the TV's yellow red white sockets marked Video In 1. This connection will give you picture and sound from either the VCR or the DVD deck.

There's a better picture quality available for DVDs only from the Component video out sockets (green red blue). Next to them is another set of audio sockets (red white). Connect all five sockets to the TV's input number 2. The colours match up. The picture from Component will be clearer and sharper.

On your Sharp TV remote, select Video 1 to watch VCR, and Video 2 to watch DVDs.

Samsung DVD-V3650 DVD Player / VCR Combo no sound when connected via component cable

Component connections between your DVD player and TV (they will be colored red, blue, and green) carry video only. You will need to connect two more cables for left and right audio channels. The connectors for these audio cables will be colored white and red for left and white respectively.

Need to hook up LG tv to phillips cd/4 head hi fi and RCA surround sound

Hello!
Ok: I will guide yourself through "hook up" process.
1. connect your TV set to your VCR, using 3 wires RCA cable(Yellow, red, white) to "Video1" input, yellow only! The other 2(sound channels) connect to "home theater/DVD unit. Use "aux" input.
2. Connect your DVD video output. yellow or 3 colored( green, blue, red) component cables to your TV's Video 2 or "component 1" input.
Now you'll be able to use your TV as a video monitor for your VCR and DVD.
The sound will be handled by DVD/Home theater. In case your TV is a very modern, all you can get out is: direct digital sound stream. Your home theater must be equipped with coaxial(orange) input(looks like RCA plug) or optical input. Or both. You must use proper cables to connect TV to Home theater.
sorry, but it requires some patience and thorough reading of user manuals.
Otherwise, it's "level 1" difficulty. nothing you may damage, due to installation.
Good luck,
Feel free to ask for more help, if needed.
thanks,
Alex.

DVD Player doesn't work on DRC6355N VCR/DVD Combo

With most dvd/vcr combo units there is separate wiring. When I use my emerson combo unit I have it wired that I have to be on different inputs on my tv to view a dvd and a vhs. On some units the vcr portion is wired via a regular cable line, while the dvd portion is wired with the yellow, red, and white component cable. Try inserting a dvd and scrolling through your tv inputs until you find the picture or check your wiring to ensure nothing has come loose. If that has no result you could try wiring it differently if possible to eliminate that as a possibility.

Ignorance on my part. Elect went out for hours; when came back on, no sound. Has something to do with onkyo and it's something simple. I've been thru this before; always seems to happen beginning of 3...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, postback with the model numbers of the cable box, the DVD/VCR combo, the TV and the Onkyo. Additionally describe the plug/cable colors used form what jack of what device to which jacks of the next device.

Offhand, it would appear that the connection is basically output of one device is fed as the input of the following device. That being so, each of the devices (except the cable box) would have to be set for which of its inputs was used.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Merry Christmas.

Only dvd plays properly but vhs will not show picture.

Most likely you have the dvd part connected through component or svideo cables. Despite the fact that this is one unit, like other vcr/dvd combo units it acts as two separate units in the same box. The vcr will probably not play through those cables. As you have audio coming through I'd imagine that the audio is connected using red and white composite cable. Connect the video on the vcr side with composite yellow cable or run direct to tv with a coaxial cable.

I have connected my DVD/VCR to my Samsung 32 inc television but I get no sound

I had a strange issue yesterday too.

Our Samsung DVD/VCr all in one combo did a similar thing.

I used the HDMI cable for the DVD into the TV input labeled HDMI/DVD. That worked okay.

But the VCR part didn't work.
At one point I got sound but no picture. Using the RCA cables in the back on another input "Component 1"

I was trying to squeeze the best picture out of the player using the S-VHS cable.

I thought it did picture only, but the Plasma seems to be more picky about input sources.

I got everything to work keeping the DVD as a separate HDMI to Plasma TV feed.
The VCR was 3 RCA's Yellow (picture) red and white for stereo sound.

I then reset (toggled through the inputs to "reset" the TV.

It finally worked but I was two days mulling it over.

See if this works for you.
My TV was a Panasonic Plasma, but shouldn't matter.
Skip the S-VHS line and connect the inoputs with the TV off.
You MAy need to go into the input of set up menu on the TV (ours had a wrench as an icon) and set the Component 1 or 2 to "VCR".
