This is an easy one , if the drive was/is still under warrenty , RMA the drive and have them send you a new one. they may ask for the money for the new one , but thats just untill they can verify your old one is dead , then they'll refund the money ... thats totaly reasonable business practice it protects them.

they should have data recovery service , which may cost you a little more , but you must decide what the data on the drive means to you , and how important it is...

ALWAYS USE YOUR WARRENTY POWER :-)

You need to format the hard drive to FAT32 and then copy your 80Gb of music files to this hard drive.

I plug my passport in to my tv and cannot find my film

Do you see any other files?
If you see, then would you check the compatibility (or readable) of movie files from your TV? (Please, check TV manuals first.)

Although TV says it read a file, for example, 'AVI', it does not mean to play all AVI files.
When someone makes AVI, many codecs can be used like xvid, x264 for video and mp3, ac3, aac and so on.

If you don't see any of your files, copy those movie AND photo files into any usb flesh drive. Then plug in and test.

I can't access my wd external hard disk (passport )through (my computer) i can see it using windows disk management as unallocated partition...when right clicking..no options are active but properties

Hello

Have you tried accessing the hard drive on another computer?
Have you tried using a different USB cable?
Was the hard drive dropped or moved while it was plugged in?

Check the WD Site if you hard drive has warranty.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Western Digital My Passport Essential SE External USB 2.0 Portable Black 720GB Hard Drive too slow..

Try plugging it into a high speed usb port, formating it with the size of your files in mind, so for instance if you have lots of big files, raise the allocation file size and visa versa, otherwise buy a faster one.

Why can't I copy larger files than 4 maybe 5GB to my passport WD? Is there a quick way how I can change this?

Your disk is formatted using FAT32 file system. FAT32 has a maximum single file size of 4GB. Reformat your drive using NTFS file system to enable file saving larger than 4GB.

To reformat the drive:
-insert external drive
- open "My Computer", point your mouse over the drive letter of your external drive, right-click and select "Format". Select NTFS from drop-down menu under "File System".
-click "Start" button

Please note that all data will be deleted so please backup your files before formatting the drive.

I accidentally dropped my 350 GB WD Passport external hard drive and now my computer does not recognize it. Is it still repairable and can i recover the files stored there. Do you have a service center...

Try it another computer.

If it still fails, there are alot of online companies that will be able to retrieve the data for you- although Im guessing the drive its self will be unusable.

WD Passport just "buzzez" after I dropped it

Crack the case open, disconnect the SATA-to-USB conversion card and try one of these:

Of course since you DROPPED IT the thing is probably suffering from a head crash and the drive is toasted.  Dropping and hard drives in the same sentence equals bad.
