I have a Canon PIXMA MP500 copier, scanner, printer (digital photo screen on the front), bought in June, 2005. I believe the manual was accidentally thrown out with the box. The ink cartridges need to be replaced, and I can't remember where they actually are in the printer. I've opened every door and drawer I can find in this machine...where are they! HELP!

This is common in Canon Pixma printers (all models). If you are
refilling your cartridges or are buying refurbished cartridges this
will happen more often. Take the cartridge out and put it back in.
If this does not work, then replace the cartridge altogether. If
that doesn't work, you need to contact Canon (us.canon.com if you are
in the U.S.) for help. Let me know if this helps you.
The number 5 is a Pigment text black while the number 8 is a dye photo black. The text black is for black text mainly and the photo black is for use when printing photos. Since the text black is always running out it means you are printing a lot of documents in plain paper mode.
I recommend using QUALITY refill ink like Hobbicolors which is sold on eBay and will save you a bundle of money. The MP830 is a 5 ink printer so you need the 5 ink kit like the IP4300.
