Hi ...... Does noise 'go-away' if you pull in the clutch ? Could be a few things, cam chain needs adjustment or replacement (35,000 miles-ish), rotor on some Kawasakis made up of steel centre, alloy middle & steel outer. Parts can become loose, short term solution is to centre tap/spot sections but ultimately replace rotor. Have you ever had the left casing off ? Is there a gasket fitted or a thinner pattern type fitted ? When was the last time valve clearences checked/changed ? Did they change shims on that side ?
Let us know how you get on.

when you get the bike started you need to adjust the pilot air screw. here's how= turn in clock wise until engine falters(mark that spot with a pin)then out counterclock wise until the engine falters(mark that spot also) then put the screw in half amount adjustment of the two marks.that will take care of if it is to lean or to rich.make sure the engine is good and warm before doing so.

No guarantees but try this. Pull the slide from the throat of the carb. Now move the clip on the jet needle down one notch. This will richen the low end mix. Two notches may be needed but do one notch at the start.

have you balanced the carbs as if they are out of sync it will run rough

You don't mention which intake you have but you probably DO know that this motorcycle is Fuel Injected.
If you're using the stock intake, make sure the air filter is clean.
I'd also -highly- recommend that you clean the throttle bodies near where the butterflies are located. These are known to carbon up and the little ring of carbon around them impedes airflow.
Next (again if it's a stock intake setup) get yourself a can of Sea Foam and introfuce it into each throttle body per the instructions on the can.
I use a syringe and fire 10cc's directly into each TB, shut it off and let it sit for a ferw minutes.
Seafoam in the tank will help clean your injectors as well.
I always use it in higher concentrations then called for and the bikes always resond well to this treatment. Fact is, the bike would run just fine with only the seafoam in the tank,
Are you running an aftermarket FI controller?
These can be adjusted as well.
I own a 2005 Drifter 1500 and an 06 1500 Classic with 24000 and 51000 miles on them respectively. FINE MOTORCYCLES.

Engine stalls cold or RPM
fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.
This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.
