Vcr remote problem

I have a sanyo vcr model vhr5215 and can't find a affordable replacement remote. the model number for the remote is 6450043987. I have a universal remote but the only thing that does is power the vcr on and off. It will not let me use menu to set up anything. Is there another remote out on the market that I can use to program my vcr.
