Hello- Ekse said you might be the one to help out.
I turn on my tv, picture is fine, but there is a spinning soudn coming from the back. At first I thougth it was feedback from the stereo, but discounnected everything and the sound is still there. The sound sounds like the same sound a dvd makes when you first put it into a portable dvd player. Little humming and then a spinning sound. It doesn't go away. I wonder if it has something to do with the DLP. Could it be the lamp?

Re: referral from Ekse. DLP Samsung spinning noise
The most likely cause would be either the color wheel or the cooling fan. If you listen at the rear cover can you dtermine where the noise is loudest? does the noise instantly go away when you turn the power off after its been on awhile? If so its the color wheel, If not its the cooling fan.

Test it this way. With the TV on and receiving a program, shine a flashlight on the screen If you can observe a faint picture then the T-Con board is working correctly but the back light ballast is not. Some models incorporate the ballasts on the power supply board. Others are on a separate board. Go here to get the correct parts to fix your TV TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy

This is most likely caused by the DLP Color Wheel Motor. It is a common problem with all DLP rear projection tv's. This motor is located inside the Light Engine Assembly. It is a exspensive Assembly to replace. I did not see brand name of the set. If it is a Samsung, the motor can be replaced separately. The motor will continue to get noisier as it is used.
I hope this helps,
Hello. It looks like you ignored lamp replacement in your TV. It have to be replaced every 2.5 years of average use. It's like oil change in a car. Regular scheduled service. You can read info about lamp replacement in your TV owner's manual, buy lamp on-line and replace it by yourself to save some money. Regards. Russ.
The lamp is the only thing that will cause the picture to go darker. According to the model you have the lamp part number is BP96-01472A. The noise you hear could possibly be the color wheel itself. The way to tell is when you turn off the TV the lamp stays on for about 10 seconds longer. Once the lamp shuts off if that noise goes away then it is a bad color wheel. Any noises past that would be a fan. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...
