Question about Sony VRD-VC10 DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

Burn dvd from vhs

I have a dvddirect video recorable dvd drive- sony wrd-wc10 and an hp laptop w/ dvd burner. I want to make DVDs from my old vhs tapes. I can't figure out how. Please help.

I'm assuming you have a vcr to play your vhs tapes, just plug your audio/video cord from your vcr(out), plug into the audio/video vc10(in), start playing vcr and press rec botton whenever you want to start to record. make sure you can only use dvd+r. choose the quality for the length of time, at the end press 'function' to finalize the disc, then you are done.

Go to the website for the DVD Maker and download the latest drivers.
No reason this won't correct the problem.
Don't go to Sony unless they made the DVD burner.

how long is the whole process of burning the dual layer dvd's
your computers hard drive might be getting to hot
try blowing out all of the dust from your laptop computers keyboard using a fine air blower from an air compressor making VERY sure there is no MOISTURE in the lines.
dust causes static which causes lots of unforseen problems with a computer and its parts
also you might buy a laptop usb 3 fan cooler pad just to keep things cool/er
you might check the leads ((motherboard to hard drive)) they might be bad/faulty

Have you tried burning a CD in the new drive? Because the drive is a DVD it will always be recognised as a DVD, but should work perfectly well with CDs both playing and recording.

Dvd burner plays dvd's and cd's fine, will burn cd's but will not burn dvd's
Unless you have one of the very latest laptops, your model laptop most likely has a DVD ROM combo drive - which allows you to play DVDs and CDs also burn CDs/
You need to give me the make and model number of your laptop for me to verify if your laptop is capable of burn DVDs.

New DVD burner won't read blank DVD-r's.
Hi again, just saw the brand and model number you posted.. noob me....

sorry to inform you that your drive HP 344542-005 is just a dvd rom drive. Its not a burner and will never burn a dvd. not even a cd.

Specs of drive:
344542-005
Hp 16X ATAPI/IDE DVD-ROM optical drive - With +R media read support - CD read up to 40X, DVD-ROM read up to 16X

Yes. You have to use built in Dvd burner of your operating system or third party dvd burning software like Nero.

Your dvd drive is not capable of burning a dual layer disc. You need to have a burner that is capable of sending the laser through to the second layer of the disc. That said you can get a DL burner for around 30 dollars. Click HERE to see one from Newegg.com.
I am not sure what you mean by 'burns, flip, burn dvds.' but if you make another comment I will respond.

Reads and writes cds,reads dvds but does not burn dvds,
This drive is normally supplied with a couple of Dells.
(because of compatibility) Inspiron 700m,710m

If you have another machine for testing?
check the disk for contents to see if the data burn happened,
this will explain a few things in your processes.

Uninstall/Reinstall the drive and reboot then try again.

Have you tried a full system reinstall yet?

New DVD burner won't read blank DVD-r's.
Make sure your burner software supports your burner. Older software doesn't read and write the newer burners properly.

I bought a used Sony VRD VC10. When I try recording DVD from a Sony Handycam Hi8 by way of RCA cables the VC10 seems to get hung up at various points. Sometimes doesn't sense DVD+R disc is in it. Sometimes recognizes DVD+R disc and formats it and goes into record mode. Most times, even if successful recognizing DVD+R disc and going into Record mode, I can't get it to Finalize. Sometimes Finalizing just goes on forever, or alternatively, shows finalizing Error.
