Door latch wont shut closed
The latch for this washer interchanges with kenmore of the same. Having power, a serial connect and a sensor switch. Commonly what happens is the female part, machine side and not door, will wear and seize. The solenoid powering the lock on the latch is plastic and two springs. You can replace this for about 40 dollars. A supply depot for appliances will need model and sometimes serial number. Secondly you want to pull the tech manual from this machine, usually bottom right side and check wire harness connections, the power is also suspect and I as a rule unplug and inspect all three. Look for serial connects like ds and ds1 for serial connects and there is three supplies for power, this one usually has three or four pink or red wires.
Does your model have a Male Female latch, where the femal receptor of the male plug is plastic?

I'm on the West Coast so didn't get your response until later.
I looked over the schematics for your washer and they weren't all that helpful.
There does appear to be a microswitch near the bottom of the door and this shoiuld actuate a lockout circut allowing the machine to latch the door internally when closed and then continue its cycle.
You can first look for this switch and then with your ear close to it activate the switch, with the machine unplugged, and listen for a click to rule the switch as faulty or not. Next, I would unplugged the unit and leave it unplugged for awhile to allow the circuit elements to drain off, put the machine in the off selection on the timer interface.
While its unplugged examine the latching assembly for any cracks or fatigue using a powerful flashlight and a magnifying glass. Also, see if the alignment of the male part to the female side of the latch lines up correctly or is just off center or not.
Due to safety regulations, when the unit is unplugged, the latch should disable itself so nothing or no one can get in an locked in.
When power is applied this latch should run its own power on self check. All these elements are activated inside the control panel, which is what normally is what goes bad, unless you can see damage to the latch from a misalignment or do not hear a click from the microswitch.
As to getting the latch off, your unit should have arrived with a set of sheets and a DVD in a pocket shelf at the back of your machine.
Mostly, these parts are exclusive to authorized service centers and a service technician would be the person to contact on your machine given no easy to remedy elements you can access as a unit owner.
Let me know what you find out from this and sorry our time zones either don't make this easy as this is a Sunday here and I'm not finished with early Sunday activities until near noon.
