Question about Compaq Deskpro EP PIII-650MHz/ 128MB/ 10GB/CDROM/ FDD/ ENET/ Keyboard/ Mouse/ WIN98COA/ No OS - (CODEEPPI1210) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Both of my CD/DVD Drives in my computer are not working correctly. My computer recognises them but when i go into my computer only my floppy drive comes up under devices. when i went into device manager, a small yellow caution sign is displayed and the message displayed is 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'. whenever i disable and enable or uninstall and reinstall the drive the same thing happens. because of this i can't listen to music, play dvds or install the new printer i have purchased. On top of all that my computer will not shut down at all. whenever i press shutdown the screen appears with the words 'Shutting Down...' and remains like that for hours. Please help!

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

WINDOWS SET UP FAILS TO LOCATE THE HARD DRIVE ACESS SEEMS TO BE DENIED

Mabee the hard drive has failed . try entering bios and see if the hard drive is recognised .If not try turning the computer off unplug it then reconnect the drive data cable and power cable
then re- start the computer and see if it is recognised. some models of older hard drives needed a driver installed during set up -- you usually have to put the driver on a floppy disc and hit the f6 button when prompted by windows set up to install third party drivers . I hope this helps

You might have to go to the BIOS of your computer to ensure your drive is recognised. Once it shows there, make sure you change the Drive as your first boot device.

CD drive does not recognise my discs(Sims 3)

Sims 3 comes on a DVD-ROM, therefore you need a DVD drive on your computer rather than a CD drive. As a test, take a disk that you know is a DVD (like a store bought or rented movie) and see if you can read that on your computer. If you cannot, then you probably have only a CD drive in your computer. DVD drives are inexpensive and easy to replace. You can purchase one at a local computer store.

IDE Drive not found on startup

I am assuming that the cd and DVD drives are on the Ide right ?? thats because one of the drives jumper is set wrong. If you take a look at the back you will find it saying master / slave / Cable select with eighter a 6 to 10 pins. basically one needs to be set to master and connected with the top piece of the cable and the other set to slave and connected with the middle of the cable. and the other jacks into the main board. If i misunderstood you please respond correcting me as soon as possible so i can be of further help.
