Chances are there is either a disconnected wire form the battery contacts or you have a chip that has gone bad. if you feel comfortable opening the case look to see if the wires around the contact are still attached(they should be soldered) if they still are this means that you have a bad circuit on the board. there is no repairing this it is far cheaper to replace the board than it is to have a tech repair it.. if the price of the camera is more than the cost of repair than it's worth having a tech take care of it,however if it is the opposite just purchase a new one. please rate this...thanks

Since the lens is projected, this would indicate that the camera failed while it was ON.

The camera is faulty and in need of repair.

Remove battery / batteries from camera and with a pencil eraser and/or a clean soft cloth rub the metal contacts of the batteries as well as the battery terminals in the camera. Reinstall battery / batteries and power the camera on.If above troubleshooting steps have failed, then the issue you describe seems to indicate that your product requires repair service. IF camera is under warranty then you give to the company, or you use these links

Hey,

Try pressing the reset button / hole its either near the connections or the battery hatch.

Do you have warranty? try pluging the camera to your pc, does anything happen, you may have to send this in for repairs.

My canon powershot A530 WONT TURN ON!!!!

Check the batteries, and if they are bad, replace them. If it has rechargable batteries, just get rid of them and try regular alkaline batteries. That should be the fix.

Green Light Turns on, Sound of turning on, lens comes out, but then goes back in a turns off. . .It's not the batteries. PLEASE HELP ME!

Note that some batteries just don't hack it in digital cameras, even if new. This is especially true for those "super heavy duty" batteries:

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2008/02/simple-fix-for-digital-cameras.html

OK, so it's definitely not the batteries. A few of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Camera turns off after lens comes out in shooting mode.

I'd recommend that you stop banging or fiddling with the lens as it does not sound like a lens error (if it were so, you'd still get an error even in review mode). Instead it sounds like the brand of batteries that you're using may not be providing sufficient power.

Alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Most retailers sells these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.
