We took the back off our HE3 and found lots of dirt/dust (belt/pulley). The pulley was warped!!! This caused the extreme vibration in the spin cycle. You might take a look at the pulley. The hole in the pulley should be round with two flat sides. Ours was completely chewed up. This caused the pulley to wobble. We also replaced the belt because of the wear on it from the pulley.
Thanks Guru - the new belt seemed to be a couple inches too short, but thanks to you, we were able to work it onto the pulley.

OK your a pro if you attached a pulley correct, now for the belt. The belt is elastic in nature and can take some abuse, so first loop it on the motor and loop it on the top of the pulley, holding the belt with one hand that follows the other hand turning at the same easy speed. it will get real easy a third of the way around and your done!

I have a Whirlpool Duet Washing Machine (GHW9100LW1). The washer stopped spinning, but the motor was going. I took off the back and noticed that the belt had come off and there was a lot of black...

The first thing to determine is if the pulley is loose due to wear on the pulley or if the spin bearing in the outer tub is bad.

Remove the belt. Make sure the nut holding the pulley in place is tight.
Wiggle the pulley while shining a bright lamp on it.. is it loose on the shaft or is the shaft moving.
If the shaft is moving.. outer tub needs to be replaced.. and in some cases this means the spin basket as well.

If you remove the pulley..and the inside mating surfaces which are flat on two sides are worn or rounded off.. bad pulley.. the retaining nut may not have been tightened properly.. or it became loose up over time,

However the black dust means the belt has been slipping ..some dust is probably normal due to age.. rubber breaks down..but a lot of dust means friction.. which means something is not turning as freely as it should.

So it has to be a loose retaining nut, worn pulley..or worn failing outer tub bearing.. I am afraid it's more than likely the last one.

Sears Parts Direct will have diagrams for your model..

Best of luck

Should there be a little wobble to the vibration damper at low rpm of ' 05 town & country?

no. there should not be any wobble to your harmonic balancer pulley! any wobble to the bottom pulley, means it's out of balance. either a belts too tight,or a harmonic balancer bolts loose. the other belts contribute to the wobble once it begins. check the tourque on the harmonic balancer bolt. it should be about 180 footlbs thank you for choosing fixya.com.

Help i found a broken belt in my ge washing machine wbvh5100hww i bought a new belt and tried to replace it, whenever i try to spin it to see if the belt will stay in place the belt slowly starts to come...

Are the two pulleys lined up with each other? Is the belt tight when installed? Make sure the motor is firmly attached at it's mounting. Is the drum or motor pulley hard to turn by hand? Make sure that neither pulley is wobbling or loose on it's shaft. Hope that some of this helps!

H3 Elite washer.... steel tub is wobbling and cutting into the plastic ring liner. If steel tub or has separated from bearing, is this covered under warranty.... after 4 years.... or not. How expensive is...

rear pulley nut is loose. tighten . if it has been loose for a while pulley may be warped and also tub bearing and spin basket could be bad. dont have your specific model # to know if in warranty . can go to wpl .com and check warranty with your model # or kenmore then go to sears.com . i would use another servicer we waive are service fee if you fix the washer we only charge 65.00 service call. im sure you can find a servicer with a lower service call. thats the highest ive ever heard they will charge you double what anyone else charges.worse case scenerio could be 300-400 dollars if tub, pulley , spin basket need to be replaced. but i say its worth you replacing pulley or checking nut any other repairs for this i would just replace unit. again check your warranty i think the spin basket has a 10-20 yr warranty.

I have a Whirlpool Duet HT washer [12-4-2003] and I'm on my 3rd pulley and 4th belt. I am convinced This is a inherent design flaw. I've used Loc-Tite and the nut loosened, but the last time I used gorrilla glue. The nut didn't come loose but the pulley failed and now I need giant vice grips or I may have to cut the nut off with my Dremmel. My hypothesis is when the drum is overloaded it puts stress on the shaft/pulley connection and the softer metal gives way. Over time the key becomes rounded and the pulley starts to wobble, thus leading to belt failure. My next version. Im considering drilling into the shaft and installing a cotter pin to keep the nut from backing off. Either way the problem originates with the pulley design.
PS. I will never buy another whirlpool product. 070498b6-8a05-400f-aab6-d2f7fbf10685.jpg

Belt comes off

maybe not, is the belt condition good, if so check for any wobble on the pulley, you may have worn drum bearings, this will cause the large pulley to wobble and throw the belt when it spins, also you can check the belt for being tight, it should be fairly tight but not tight enough to cause it to snap, if loose there should be adjustment at the motor end on the motor housing, all of this is assuming this is not a brand new belt, if so have you bought the right one?

How much play in rear pulley

Scott, the pulley should be tight, no play, Check to see if one of spokes are cracked on the pulley. I do believe that you have a 5 year warranty on the bearings on this machine, parts only. It's a huge job to replace the bearings on this model. Give Sears a call to see if they will cover the parts. You will need the rear tub and bearing kit...Good luck
