Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

1 Answer

6000 crashing Hey! My Inspiron just crashed suddenly while I was playing a game... When it crashed, the screen went black but several lights were on. The computer stayed on but the hard drive light was flashing and along with the flash, there was a click type sound. I believe my num, caps, and scroll lock may have been lit but I can't remember. I tried to manually shut down the computer by holding the power button but it did not work. I then proceded to remove the battery and the charger. Once I put the battery back in along with the charger, I tried to turn the computer back on, but it did not. The computer does not even show that it is charging. If it helps, this computer was purchased around 2004-05.

Try the RAM modules one at a time. See if system run normally one one but not the other. If no change, then the system is most likely not cooling properly and when under load it crashes. If that is the case, a CPU Heatsink/Cooling fan might resolve. If still no go, then motherboard

Have you tried to boot into safe mode? When you start the pc, listen for a single boop...if you hear one, that is the mobo starting up, at that time hit F8 to try and kick it into safe mode.

Inspiron e 1505 does not turn' on

It could be a couple of things, but it seems most likely that it is the RAM Memory that is causing this.  You might need to add more.  I have seen this before with one of my customers, we upgraded his ram from 1.5 to 2 gbs, and his games/windows no longer crashed

Try to reinstall XP again, when prompted to partiton, select to do so.
You will lose everything on the hard drive and will need to reinstall all of your programs.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Hey there SeanJohn79, have you tried hooking an external monitor to your laptop. You can move the video output back and forth, from external, LCD + external, LCD using Fn + F7. Hopefully this will allow you to see the necessary info for diagnosing the problem. Good Luck. Keep us posted! In case you are not aware, these are some display related key functions:
Fn + F3 = turn off lcd
Fn + F8 =Switch computer screen size
Fn + F12 =Hibernation mode, power for 4 secs releases.
Fn + F4 = Standby mode, press Fn key to return to normal
If you haven't tried switching some of these, give it a shot.
