Question about Sharp 19R-M100 19" TV

1 Answer

Parental Control V chip has been activated.

I have a sharp plazma Tv model # 19R M100. I am unable to watch any movies that are rated PG. The parental control chip is activated and the screen turns blue. When I click on menu it is asking for a security code. I would like to know what the security code is.

On my Sharp 36R-s400. Go to menu , then parental control. When dispaly asks for secret number,
press and hold volume up and channel down simultaneously until message is cleared.
This turns off parental control and clears the password.

You must press the volume up and channel down buttons on the TV, not on the remote.

TV power button on my RCA True Flat 27" screen TV

RCA TVs come with a child lock capability called V-Chip. It's a parental control system which allows you to block programs and films by content, age-based ratings and the ratings which come with the movies. The parental control is a code, sent by the broadcaster to your television. The V-Chip will not work if the broadcaster doesn't send the control, or if the parental controls are switched off or unlocked. The controls are set up in the TV's main menu. The default is off.
From the main menu choose "Parental Controls;" it's option six.
Choose the first option, V-Chip TV Rating Limit, and using the arrow keys and the OK button on the remote, scroll through until the TV-MA rating appears. Press the right arrow button to move the highlight over to the "Status" field and toggle to "View." Press the OK button. This will set the age-based ratings to Mature.
From the Parental Controls menu, select the second option, V-Chip Movie Ratings Limit and change the rating to TV_MA and the "Status" to "View."
From the Parental Controls menu select the third option, V-Chip Unrated Program Block and select item one, which will be "View."
Select the fourth option, which is "Channel Block." Highlight the Channel field and using the channel up and down buttons, go through and check they are all set to 'View." Any set to "Block" will need to be toggled back to View.
Lock the controls to activate the changes using item six on the "Parental Controls" menu.

How to reset the parental control code - I forgot the code and want to reset with a new one

This is what I found in the instruction manual on this and I posted it here for you. Try using 3355 for the code and everything else listed here. If that doesn't work, try the very last tip which tells you how to do a factory reset and repeat the first step using the 3355 as the code.

Here's the instructions from manual:

Parental Control
Parental Control allows you to block certain channels or programs so children cannot view
programs that are not age appropriate.
To enter the Parental Control menu, you need an
access code. The first time you enter, use access
code 3355. See "Setting an Access Code" on
page 33 for information on creating a new access
code.
You can set the following options to block
content:
• Channel Lock — Blocks selected channels
• Movie Rating — Blocks movies based on their rating (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17, and X)
• TV Ratings — Blocks TV shows based on their rating
• Block Options — Turns on or off all your parental control settings
NOTE: You can use Clear All to unblock the channels and programs that you have set.
NOTE: If the Block Control in the Parental Control menu is enabled, all the sub screens in POP (POP1,
POP3 and POP12) mode will be blank

Setting an Access Code m
After you enter the Parental Control menu for the first time, you can set your own four-digit access
code. If for any reason you lose or forget your access code, you can use the default code.
1 In the Parental Control menu, select Change Code.
2 Using the number pad on the remote control, enter a new access code.
3 Select Exit.

Reset the original factory defaults. Press Menu on the remote
control, select Setup, and then select Factory Reset

Need unlock parental code

We cannot supply this information as we have no way of checking if you are a minor trying to subvert the code. The only way to get this information is to pay for it with a credit card.

So if you are not of age and are trying to get around the code, ask your parents to unlock it for you, and good luck on that!

Thank you for using FIXYA

Resetting my parental passcode

Hi haventaclue

I searched for your manual but came up empty handed(for free at least). There are places you can pay to download it, but I did find this one, and similar vintage to yours, that has instructions on the parental control. Not sure how to reset the code. I did find this on page 18, it regards setting up a secondary set of blocks. Perhaps you could try that.
• If you intend to change or forget your Secret No., clear the original Secret No. and set
up a new one.
1 Repeat steps 1 to 3 of [1] MPAA RATING, or 1 to 2 of [To cancel
the V-CHIP BLOCK screen while V-CHIP BLOCK has been
activated], then “INPUT SECRET No.” will be displayed.
2 Press and hold both VOL (+) and CH DOWN (9) on the TV set
simultaneously until the message “INPUT SECRET No.”
disappears.
3 Press MENU two times to exit.

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, please get back to me here, or use the ASK function to go straight to me :) If you are still unsure, have problems, or we need to look at the situation more deeply, then before you give a rating for this advice, hit the ASK button Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Cheers.

Sharp 21 dig, color

Your parental lock is probably activated. That is most likely the V-chip doing its job locking out depending on the rating (PG,PG13,R etc) of the program.
