One thing worth bearing in mind is how you plan to reinstall the operating system. It would be a very sensible idea to obtain the SCSI drivers. This is for when you have to press F6 on the boot up. Chances are it isn't going to have a sound card nor any USB ports if it's an old server.

A different operating system (Like XP)

However, depending on the server, it may not make the best multimedia device.

It really depends on the hardware configuration, and what you plan on using it as, but for the most part, you shouldn't have any problems.

Server ON only by pressing power on button continously otherwise server downs & no display

where the cable for the power sw connects to the motherboard your polarity might be reveresed. Therefore, try switching the plug-in the other direction (groung and colored wires).

Hi, I m really sorry to say that but you have a Server Product and its built to run Windows Server Series on it (or Linux / Novell Netware).
This is the list of compatible Server list
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for 64-bit Extended Systems Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Essential Business Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Foundation Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Small Business Microsoft Windows Server 2008 W32 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64 Novell NetWare 6.5 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (AMD64/EM64T) Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86) Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server (x86) Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server (x86-64) SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T) SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86) SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (AMD64/EM64T) SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (x86)
Here is the link for Drivers
Try to use the Driver for Windows 2003.
It has a Matrox VGA as I know. If you know which Matrox series you have, then Browse here for the Drives: Matrox Graphics Support. Make sure that you choose the Exact Driver software which suites the System.
Note: Not every product has the Driver Software for Windows XP.

I tried to do a fresh installation of this server but the message that comes out was cannot find the hdd's

Why did you need to do a fresh install? If the software can't find the HDDs then maybe there's a hardware problem that needs to be addressed that can't be solved with a fresh install.

Please check out my business server website, especially if you're in the Washington DC area.

We have numerous Gateway servers. The server business was sold to MPC and now they've gone under. Where do we go for support? Some of our servers are still under warranty - is that now useless?

Support, you're out of luck I'm afraid. Find a local computer company that can do server work on the scale you need would be my best suggestion. The warranty is a little trickier. It depends on exactly what warranty you got. If I understand correctly and you bought the servers from Gateway before they sold, then Gateway still holds warranty obligations on them IF you have certain warranties then they must replace with equivalent or better - but seeing as they got out of servers, they will probably just give you a desktop that is comparable in specs, even though it's not at all the same thing. A description of the Gateway warranties is here. I kind of doubt that you'll get any traction unless you bring up the legal obligations they have under the specific document that covers your case. Even then, they might refuse and you'd have to get lawyers involved, but at this point it's probably not worth it.

So it took me that long to say: Probably Gateway won't do anything for you. Possibly you can get spares from online retailers or auction sites to replace your aging hardware, but this technique can only last so long.

IBM xseries 205, Model 8480-43X Memory upgrade an POST BEEP

Those beeps mean that your RAM is not functioning. Are you sure you got the right upgrade type. Sometimes it'll fit into socket but won't work because of speed. Or just try reseating the modules.

NetServer LPr P3-750 won't boot

Well, what kind of memory are you trying to use? I did some research on the product itself and found out that it requires 100MHz registered ECC SDRAM! If you put in a different speed memory or non-ECC it more than likely won't work! If that's not the situation then get back to me! Regards, Babb
