When I turn the box on, it says new channels detected and after the search process has been completed, within a few seconds the same autocue saying new channels detected appears on the screen. Therefore, it is impossible to watch or record anything through the digi-box. Any ideas?

And you're correct, a manual search may be in order. You might want to first do an auto search with the aerial cable unplugged. This will flush your current channels. Then try an auto search with the aerial plugged in. If there is no improvement, then a manual search it is. Good luck.
Looks like you have missed the final software updates for the PVR72xx and 62xx series last year. The bad news is that Sagem are not likely to send another update for their old models. If you check your box settings and you have software version 0.4.5. or less, your box will probably not work again. Sorry, mate...
The Sagem PVR 6280 is specifically listed as a model which will have problems with the retune.
See the address below for a chart of affected models, but the official advice is that you must contact Sagem directly on 0845 0900 316 for either an over the air update or an update DVD depending upon the manufacturer.
I think that you must be referring to the security PIN code for your box as no code is needed for the update itself. Sagem use a default PIN code of 1234 and a few use 1111. If these don't work then search for others but ultimately there is a jumper switch inside the unit on the main circuit board which can be used to clear the PIN code. Note that if you do this on a DIY basis then you should ensure the unit is physically disconnected from the power supply and that you use an anti static mat or wrist strap to prevent damage. If you get a professional to do this expect to pay at least £30 - £40; this is around half the cost of the box when it was new and it will not still allow you to successfully update.
The Sagem PVR 6280 is specifically listed as a box which will have updating problems, so DO NOT update it yet if you wish to avoid loss of functionality. The official advice is to phone Sagem directly on 0845 0900 316 to see if they have a fix yet, but as thousands of their boxes are affected the phone line is very busy this week.
Please see the address below for the official list of affected Freeview boxes:-
Check with your provider to ensure that you are in expanded services, or limited. Because being on limited services the box will lock you out of those channels. If you are in billing for those services and you checked the batteries on your remote and they are good and you get a solid red blink when you change channels not a double blink (indicating that your batteries are dying), Then try power cycling your DVR by, removing the power supply and waiting 3sec then plug it back in. Your box should shut off, turn itself back on, then go into the load screen, then, once the load screen display shows on your tv and on box display, wait for your box to completely load (don't touch nothing until the correct time shows up, meaning that it has completed the load process) Once the process is complete turn box back on and you should have you guide back up and (No Data) on your program schedule(Don't Worry!!) it will populate, with 15-20 mins.
Now try to ch. up and down and see if that fixed the problem. also make sure nothing is blocking the sensor. If all else fails and you changed the battery, called your cable provider and request a box swap, (be sure to watch all your recorded shows because they go bye, bye with the cable guy!)
You may lose some channels when you retune the TV as the channels have been rearranged. To locate them look at the EPG although you may still find that some channels are no longer available on FREEVIEW. See the following link for additional information http://www.freeview.co.uk/_retuneinfo/ If the above process does not work then check the link above for additional information and also visit the accompanying site links below to find more information for your model of TV / FREEVIEW box. If something else works in the outlet that reciever is plugged in to, the reciever is fried. Try to charge your phone or plug in a clock where the reciever is. Outlet might be connected to a light switch, for a lamp or something. If you have a light switch you don't what it does, this might be it. Hope it helps.
When that happens its most likley you had a power outage and the box reset. Well kinda reset but not all the way. You can unplug the power and wait about 10sec and plug it back in and wait a few min to a few hours, and If that doesn't work get a new box.
