Hello there ... I've a Philips MP3/CD DiscPlayer (Expanium 200 Series) i haven't been using it for a while and it was working Perfectly. a week ago i tried to play a CD on it ... but it kept on...

With luck it's just dirt on the lens of the player. Every time you put in a CD the lazer has to read the TOC, generally that strange chirping noise is when it is doing it, just before it displays the number of tracks and time. If it can't see that because of some dirt, it will say NO DISC.

the lens cud be dirty or damaged or the cd spindle motor has gone bad. in case of dirty lens try using lens cleaner cd. that dont work means probably spindle motor is out.

No sound from cd player

the laser lens needs cleaned most likely, you can purchace a cleaning disk, or take the unit apart and used a eyeglasses cloth and very gently wipe the lens clean. the lens will be very small and near the motor that spins the cd. when wiping it off, wipe in one direction only. if that doesnt work then the laser has become weak or has quit working

Music speeds up,skips pulsating noise

Ok, this is optical lens assembly failure. the lens assembly is a whole device that runs on a rail with rail motor. the spin motor is also attached to this Assembly as well. the entire assembly will need to be replace due to the damage that has occurred.

Replacing the optical lens assembly will fix all the issues you stated.

Will play CD's but not DVD's or Games

You have to take the box apart and clean the lens.Ok !
  1. The white plastic gear that moves the laser must make contact with the "motor". A bad contact here can cause disk read errors. Sometimes it looks Ok, but you may need to remove the lens and bend the white gear for good contact.
  2. The two rails on which the lens move must be very slippery - which can be lubricated with cooking or motor oil. Usually the holes where the rail is (on the right side of the lens) are dirty or you have to bore then out slightly, making the holes bigger.
  3. The lens uses little torx screw (black) that move the lens up and down on the rail. Usually the lens is too high and requires adjustment.
  4. Take the lens off these 2 rails and take the black plastic cover off. Turn the lense upside-down and you'll find there are 2 screws (silver, phillips or torx) that you have to remove to take the upper little lens off.
  5. Then you'll see a larger lens that is usually very dirty (this lens is a mirror to light). If that's dirty, it will give a disk read error. You'll have to take the little electric board off that you see on the other side of the big lens-mirror. It's probably dirty too, so clean it. Alcohol should work OK for this task.
  6. The lens bottom has 2 + 2 screws. You move the upper "little" lens up-down-left-right (this may require a special screwdriver)
  7. The motor "rail" that moves the lens must be very clean and oiled and the 2 rails too.

I works mechanically, but doesn't play the CD

try cleaning the lens first use a lint free swab and GENTLY clean the lens. don't use any liquid on this. if that doesn't work then load a disc and gently spin the disc when it lifts into load posistion. if begins to spin on it's own then replace the spindel motor. if it still does not spin, replace the optical pickup, the EF sensors inside the pickup no longer have the ability to read (see) the disc.

Two possibilities that are immediately apparent. One, the lens on the drive is dirty. Stop by a department store and buy a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner CD and put it in the drive several times, making sure that it tries to read it each time. This can brush away the debris on the lens and it may work again. Two, the drive motor or lens assembly (that moves) has failed. My experience is that these drives have a 2-3 year life span. Luckily, they are now bargain-priced and you can pick them up at your local discount store and replace them yourself.

Its a good possibility that the turntable that the cd sits on is pushed down or up from where its suppose to be as if the laser cant focus on the disc the motor wont spin. There could also be a bad spindle motor as these do go bad or the motor driver ic is defective. see if you can somehow see the lens when the disc is inserted if you can see the lens moving up and down it is one of thoses problems I described are the cause, or worse case is a defective laser Pick-up assy. Good luck. good luck
