I also press the power button and the Initializing screen displays.  Then the screen goes blank.  I think that the player thinks that the device is on since I have to press and hold the power button for 4-5 seconds before it will go through the power up sequence again.  I've tried holding the power button down for 30 seconds but no change in the behavior.  I can't update the firmware because I get the message the device is in the MTP mode and needs to be in the MSC mode to check for updates.  Obviously I can't change modes since the device doesn't have a display to show menus.  Any advice?

Restart

try doing this and let me know if it goes into recovery mode
1. with mp3 off slide the hold button to on so it locks
2.hold down record button on left hand side and keep held down
3. whilst holding record turn mp3 on still hold down record it should now be in recovery mode if your mp3 player gets this far then it can be fixed.
Once in recovery mode goto sandisk site and you need to goto downloads and download latest firmware for your make and model once downloaded it will talk you through how to istall this onto your mp3 player if you have any problems let me know ok

Repeating Screen HELP

I got mine to work.  This may only be applicable to the e200R (RHAPSODY) version of the Sansa.

Step 1:  Follow this link first and follow the directions:

http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6214&highlight=SCSI

I didn't know where to get the ROM file so I left it out (I only created the sansa.fmt file got the MI4 file).  That brings me to...

Step 2:  Follow this link if you get a "Load main image failed Switch to recovery mode" error message:
http://real.lithium.com/real/board/message?board.id=Rhapsody_MP3_Players&thread.id=2403

It's very important that on step 8, after you turn it off and it is beginning to reboot, that you reset the Hold button so that it isn't showing orange anymore.

Not as hard as it seems!

You have locked the keys, look for a switch with a red , white or orange lock icon and move it then try to turn it on. The switch should be on the side of the player, either at the top, bottom or sides of the screen.
