New HP laptop will not connect to wireless secure network

We have had the di-524 working for a couple of years. 2 desktops using 2 different wireless cards care onnecting fine. We purchased a new HP laptop for my daughter, running VISTA (other systems are running XP). We can see our SSID just fine and the signal is very strong. I am not using MAC or IP address screening. In fact, my other daughter recently got an i-touch and was able to connect out of the box, using our 128bit key. We are using WEP. The new laptop can connect fine to other networks (cafe's, stores, schools). The laptop also connected fine to another secure network at her friends house. Details in event log just say that it failed to connect for an unknown reason

I'm 66 yrs. of age, never wrote a complaint before this!My daughters have given me Starbucks cards for my birthday for more than ten years...I love them! However, a recent encounter leaves a bad taste in my mouth. My wife and I recently spent two weeks in Key West,Fl.and visited the store in the 'La Concha' hotel.(March 9th -22nd) The first week was fine. On or about the weekend of the 15th / 16th the card reader mysteriously no longer worked. It still did not work on the 22nd! If this were a major dept. store it would have been correctly immediately. In my opinion and others' it is felt that it was merely a new tactic to purge additional cash from customers as this problem coincided with the arrival of the first group of Spring Breakers. Yes, I paid- I need my Starbucks.
    But it wasn't unnoticed.
P.S.---Denny's used a different scheme for the same reason. They
simply made the lower priced menu unavailable (Not using it) for that week!. One waitress said, 'If you know the item and the price of the desired item I can furnish it, but we're not using that menu'. (It's the one with the highly advertised $2-$4-$6-$8
    items.)

Problem solved. I disabled the security on my network. I connected the new laptop to the unsecure network. I saved the settings on the laptop for the unsecure network. I rebooted the laptop. I re-enabled security on the router. I tried to connect to the network. I got an error on the laptop saying the network saved settings did not match. I modified the settings to a secure network on the laptop and saved the 128 bit key. Rebooted everything. All works fine now.

I have DI 524 d-link. Internet works on desktop and one laptop. Just got a new laptop and everytime I try to connect on the network of 1st. laptop, it says connected with limited access. unable to have...

Make sure that every setting in the new laptop matches the settings in the router. If one setting is off, you will not get a connection. It is also possible that the router is set to only allow specific computers to connect to it. If that is the case you will have to add the new laptop to the allowed connections in the wireless settings of the router.

Cant connect my laptop wirelessly...

Try to reconfigure your wireless network on your DI-524.

To access the configuration page of your router by Default type in on the address bar 192.168.0.1. On the login page by default the Username is admin and leave the Password blank.

If inside the the configuration page of the router

>Click Home
> Click on WIRELESS located on the left side and you will have the wireless setting of your network
> Change the wireless network name
> Under security choose either WEP or WPA -PSK for this type of router.
> Type in your new network key (also know as Passphrase of Key1).

For WEP use 0 to 9 Number or A to F character and it should be exactly 10 characters.
For WPA-PSK you can use alpha numeric from 0 to 9 and from A to Z. The minimun character would be 8.

> Click on apply
> Click on continue.
Try accessing your wireless network first using your wireless computer. If you are connected to your wireless network try connecting to the Internet.

New laptop can not connect to Di-524 router

connect the router to pc via a ethernet cable, then there should be a reset pin hole on the back, press this, the router will restart and clear the password, restart pc next, then type in the routers address again and you should connect.

You can then remove the cable and connect using the wireless connection

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.

DI-524 One wireless connection makes others not ok

This is unusual, as it seems the router is allocating two pc's the same IP address. Go into your routers settings (internet browser and type the router address, eg 192.168.1.1)' and look at Client DHCP list and look at the IP addresses that each pc has been given and see if two are the same, they should be one digit difference, that being the last. Also go into the properties of both your pc's wireless cards and ensure that they are set to obtain an ip address automatically.
