My USB ports do not work on my laptop. Is there an adapter that will connect to a different port and let me plug my usb port into the adapter. Example; one end will plug into a port on the computer that is NOT a USB port and the other end(s) will be for the USB port on device that I want to hook up to the computer.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

My friend has a laptop and I just found this wireless adapter as his laptop did not come wireless. I plugged it in but I would have thought it would recognize that there was something in the USB port but...

Yes there's a big chance that the wireless adapter is bad already since there's no light came up when you connected it to the USB port, try to connect it on a different USB port and if still no light on it the adapter is already bad.

The connection on the rear of the hub should go to a USB connection on the laptop, not a PS/2 connection. A PS/2 to USB adapter is used to connect a PS/2 keyboard or mouse to a USB connection.

Here's what you can do since this is a USB wireless adapter, first connect the USB adapter on a different USB port on the computer better if you connect it on the back USB port of the computer tower and check if the computer will recognize it and if its recognize you can already continue with the software installation , but if not you can restart first the computer and check if the adapter will be recognized if still not the next thing to do here just to know if the adapter is good or bad is to connect it on a different computer and just to check if it will be recognized once its connected to a USB port , because a device should be automatically will be recognized by a computer once you connect it so if its still not recognized by a different computer adapter is bad...

I eed to know which port to connect to to use usb

I had this problem as well. I loaded the drivers for the USB to Serial Adapter and the drivers for the SiPix printer, left the adapter cable plugged in and rebooted my pc. After powering my PC back up I went back into the SiPix printer properties and another com port (5) showed up in the list of com ports. This was the port I needed and the printer woks great!! now your comport may be different depending on which USB port you have your SiPix connected to. This worked for me. Hope it helps you out!!

Spyder mouse won't work

I had a similar problem. I corrected by performing a manual connect as listed in the manual that came with the mouse.
Manual reconnect:
1. Plug in the receiver.
2. Turn on the mouse.
3. Press the button on the receiver.
4. Press the connect button on the mouse once within five seconds of pressing the button on the receiver.

This worked for me, and the mouse has worked fine since.

If this doesn't work. The manual suggested taking the batteries out of the mouse for 20 seconds and unplugging the receiver, then repeat the steps above.
If that doesn't work. reboot the computer and repeat the steps above.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

There are serial port to USB adapters, but can't you use a USB cable by itself? You can find the adapters at cyberguys.com or milestek.com

Wont connect to wireless network

first, I suggest trying a different USB port. remove the adapter and the icon should disappear, so if the usb port is loose or broken that may be why its acting like that. Plug it into a different port and try it. You may have to reinstall the driver for the next usb port depending on your system

Use with usb adaptor

If the USB to PS2 adapter has 2 PS2 ports, make sure it is in the correct one, but this should not be the problem. I have heard that some PS2 keyboards do not work with some USB to PS2 adapters.. Too much trouble to get a USB keyboard?
