Xerox workcentre PE16 scanning problem

I have problem with my PE16. When I make a copy so that the paper is on the glass "screen" no problem.
But when I put the paper on the feeding station and start copying (=scanning) half of the paper is unclear.
Should I chance the the scanning beam?
If so, do you where to get it?

With best regards,

SOURCE: xerox workcentre pe16

Remove the back cover. And looking from the back, remove the right side cover. There is a white ribbon cable and one connector with mostly red wires, remove and reseat those. Return power to the machine and see if it comes on.
If not, then remove the right side cover, the 2 screws that fasten the scanner to the frame, remove the scanner and then the controle consol, ( display.) then unplug all the connectors on the display and reconnect them.
It the display still does not work after reseating all the connectors, the display itself is defective.

SOURCE: Is there a Mac workaround driver for the Xerox WorkCentre PE16

Recently I had to configure a 17" Aluminum PowerBook and a Xerox Workcentre PE 16. That multifunction laser monochrome printer is not supported by MacOS X, but I tried all the same.... and no glue for that, until I went on the Samsung webpage and noticed their SCX-4216F printer. This machine is the same as the PE 16.

So I downloaded the lastest drivers from Samsung's download centre (drivers for Tiger too), installed the drivers on the PowerBook (running 10.3.4), connected the printer and when I selected the printer ... tada! It automatically selected the Samsung driver, so I clicked on OK and started printing. Everything was OK!

But it doesn't end here: even the Lexmark X215 MPF has the same chassis as the Xerox and Samsung. Yet, on Lexmark's website there are no Mac OS X drivers, but Samsung's drivers work just the same. I hope this hint will help others...

Welcome to FixYa!

Always use print materials that meet the guidelines for use with this machine. Using print materials that are not recommended may cause paper jams or print quality problems.

Guidelines for Paper and Special Materials:

When selecting or loading paper, envelopes, or other special materials, keep the following guidelines in mind.

  • Printing on damp, curled, wrinkled, or torn paper can cause paper jams and the poor print quality.
  • Use only high quality copier grade paper. Avoid paper with embossed lettering, perforations, or texture that is too smooth or too rough. Paper jams may occur.
  • Store paper in its **** wrapper until ready to use. Place cartons on pallets or shelves, not on the floor. Do not place heavy objects on top of the paper, whether it is packaged or unpackaged. Keep it away from moisture, or other conditions that can cause it to wrinkle or curl.
  • During storage, you should use moisture-proof wrap, such as any plastic container or bag, to prevent dust and moisture from contaminating your paper.
  • Always use paper and other materials that conform with the specifications
  • Use only well constructed envelopes with sharp, well creased folds.
  • Do not use envelopes with clasps and snaps.
  • Do not use envelopes with windows, coated lining, self-adhesive seals, or other synthetic materials.
  • Do not use damaged or poorly made envelopes.
  • Load special paper types one sheet at a time.
  • Only use materials specifically recommended for use in laser printers.
  • To prevent special materials, such as transparencies and label sheets from sticking together, remove them as they print.
  • Place transparencies on a flat surface after removing them from the machine.
  • Do not leave transparencies in the paper tray for long periods of time. Dust and dirt may accumulate on them, resulting in spotty printing.
  • To avoid smudging caused by fingerprints, handle transparencies and coated paper carefully.
  • To avoid fading, do not expose the printed transparencies to prolonged sunlight.
  • Store unused materials at temperatures between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F). The relative humidity should be between 10% and 70%.
  • Make sure the adhesive material on your labels can tolerate fusing temperatures of 200°C (392° F) for 0.1 second.
I hope this helps.

Photocopies are very faint on one side

The scanner mirrors are dirty.
You can try doing a shading adjustment . You press menu #1934 to enter tech mode. Then in menus under maintenance go to shading adjustment, place 5 sheets of paper on the glass and run the shading adjustment. That may help.
But the problem is the mirrors are hazy and in need of cleaning. The rear, both side covers must be removed. Then 2 screws on the back of the scanner must be removed , and the connectors unpluged from the main board. There is also one green ground wire that is attached to the frame from the scanner.
Once the scanner is removed, you have I believe 4 screws to remove and the controle panel.
You have to be very careful opening the scan head under the lamp. It is just held together with plastic tabs. Under the lamp are the mirror and lens, that must be cleaned to get your copy quality back to mormal

Xerox PE16 Workcenter

if you print from a printer do you get the blank like?
if Yes, then you may have some dead LED's on the scanner (this will need replacement)
if No, then look at your scanner (small thin glass strip that reads the paper when being copied) and clean it. 9 times out of 10 there is some white-out or toner stuck to it, clean it and that should fix that.

hope this helps with the white line

thanks for rating
