I just bought mine a few days ago (haven't even used it)and it won't charge when it is plugged in. The screen lights up and it says that it is but once I unplug it it says the battery is low and it shuts off.
And also the thing where you are able to download music won't show up.
So I really don't know what to do.
Can anyone help?

Re: USB Cord (Or something)
First, make sure the hold/lock is not engaged, and that there is no lock on your USB port (usually not). Try hooking it to a different PC, and see if it will charge. If it charges on a different PC or a different usb port, then your USB port is bad/wrong kind.

Because if you charge the battery too often you might be getting something which is called a "fat battery" which if what happens as well if you charge a cell phone too often, it could also be that the cable that plugs into your computer to charge it could be dusty inside...
Try charging it up on a different computer. It says in the instructions
that they cannot guarantee the charging of the battery on personally
assembled or modified computers. I had the same problem with mine on
our independent computer shop bought PC, but it is charging up fine now
that I've plugged it into my hubby's laptop which was bought in a PC
supermarket. I hope this helps.
I had this problem when I bought mine 2 days ago. I was about to take it back to Tesco when I tried to just charge it using a car cigar lighter socket to usb converter. Again it came up with Technika on the screen but this was soon replaced by the word "Charging".
I let it charge for a while and was then able to use the device as per the instructions.
It appears that the device cannot be used without being charged up slightly beforehand. I bought my 12v adapter for £3 - it's worth a try.
I have no charge in my philips hdd82 player. Usually I just plug it into my computer via usb and a screen shows up on the player showing its connected and it charges. Usually it comes up as an MTP device on the computer so I can add mp3s as well. Now for no reason at all, when I plug it in, it doesn't charge and the computer doesn't recognize it. The screen shows an outlet when I plug it in so I know the cord works. It just won't let me do anything. When I press the on button with the cord unplugged, I can't do anything either b/c no charge. HELP. plz.
Hi. I've had similar problems with the same model.
Have you tried a Firmware re-install yet? If not, do that first using the CD supplied with it.
Whilst it's plugged into your USB port, it'll hopefully also get a bit of a charge. I notice on mine that the player will only charge from the USB port when the side on/off switch is in the 'on' (up) position, although there are times when the computer will 'reject' the player with the switch in this position - a series of 'ding-dongs' as it connects and disconnects from the USB port!
If this happens to you, just keep trying! Come back to it each day, and try another Firmware re-load!
Mine took a few days, but then decided to come to life - weird machine!
