Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer hums but doesn't spin without a push

I saw your response about a dryer that just hums but doesn't turn. You said, "Try turning it on while holding the door switch and give the drum a spin. If it starts you will need a motor if it does nothing then look for a solenoid."

I don't understand your answer. My Fisher and Paykel only hums, but if I manually spin the drum, it will then continue to spin at full speed. The motor seems to work very well except needing a push to get started. Are you sure that I need a new motor? I live in Vanuatu so I will have to order the part from Australia. I want to make sure I order the right part.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond.

Wow! I really appreciate you getting back to me. I will check the motor again to see what I need to do. Thanks so much!

Okay, you may not need a motor but you may just need a motor switch. Get your model number and call an appliance parts store in your area and see if the switch is available. If it is then just replace the motor switch if not you will have to replace the motor. The switch is connected to the outside of the motor you will notice it because all of the wires that connect to the motor connect to it. Some of the switches have 2 screws that hold them to the motor some are riveted. If it is riveted then there probably isn't a replacement. If there are the 2 screws it most likely will be replaceable but I have seen some circumstances where it isn't. Hope this helps.

Frigidare dryer aeq6000es2 doesn't spin, humming noise, burning smell

Hello tancrbtt - It sounds like your unit may have one or more problems. Either the belt slipped off the idle pulley and/or dryer belt and needs replacing, a faulty motor or a common failure between control and motor. Consult a professional to accurately diagnosis the dryer and to assist with the repairs.

KEYS750LQ0 dryer doesn't start it just hums when I push start

Check the belt. You may have to open the machine up to look. if the belt is ok turn the drum by hand and see if the motor pulley is also turning. While you are in there look for foreign objects that have wedged against the drum preventing it from turning.

I get no response when i push the start button of my dryer. Only a humming noise.

unfortunately the noise is your motor, try spinning the drum by hand,if it spins it's the motor,if it's hard to turn you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or the belt could be hung up on something that's not letting the motor turn, also try spinning the drum and hold the door switch in and have someone else hold the start button in to see if it starts, sometime there's a flat spot on the motor and you can get it to start this way but if it happens again you have to change out the motor or get a new dryer, good luck let me know what you find and if you need more help let me know

We just purchased a new Samsung Dryer model #DV218AEB/XAA the lights will come on but when you attempt to start the dryer there is a hum, the dryer does not spin, then the hum goes away after a few...

Could be a couple things causing this problem. If you can turn the durm by hand without much resistance then the belt may be too loose. This could be because the spring on the tension pully came off or the belt streached. The humming you hear is the motor spinning. If you cannot turn the drum by hand then something could be stuck between the drum and the frame of the dryer.
I would also check that the dryer is wired correctly, because low voltage could be causing the motor to hum but not turn.

When you press the start button the dryer hums and doesnt turn

first thing you need to do is open the door and try to rotate drum by hand it it is not turn by hand that mean there is some thing stack in your blower fan. if you can turn the drum by hand you need two people to check this problem..one open the door there is one push button, push that button and hold now second person need to push the start button when you heard hums sound the turn the drum by hand again if your dryer stat spin that mean you have bad motor. (forgive me for my english)

Dryer heats up but won't turn

Depending on the make of dryer, there are several possibile reasons for this.
First and foremost, could be a faulty motor- faulty start capacitor, Faulty start relay.
Without more information I cannot be more specific.
Hope this helps.
Please leave feedback.
Thanks.

Dryer drum will not turn

Try pushing start button while turing drum clock wise and see if drum will start spinning, sounds like bad start winding or relay
