    Thanks Slinteriors.

One more question, If I leave the tv unplugged for 48 hours would that be enough time so I can work on the board without being shocked.

  • coolmike711 Sep 06, 2008

I want to remove the board. How do I discharge the power so I don't get shocked.

  • coolmike711 Sep 07, 2008

    Slinteriors,

I replaced the resistor first and it burned again. The I replaced the IC's and the resistor and the same resistor burned again.

    What now...

  • coolmike711 Sep 07, 2008

The other five read the same, I figure they are good. The burnt one has no reading.

  • coolmike711 Sep 07, 2008

Yeah, I am about to do that. We will see what happens.

  • coolmike711 Sep 09, 2008

What is the convergence yoke and where is it?

Those are the convergence feed resistors. # blinks on a panasonic means convergence IC failure. You will need to replace the two stk392-110 convergence ICs and the six resistors. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link.

first off leave it unplugged for at least a half hour, then when you remove the HV lead just ground the end for a few seconds to be safe but most dangerous voltages will drain done after a half hr except the CRTs but your not going to be unhooking them

there are six of those resistors which are all the same rating unsolder one side of the resistors and lift it out of circuit and check the resistance of all six resistors

If you have replaced the ICs and resistor and that one resistor keeps burning you will need to trace that circuit with the schematics to see what other components are on that one line with the resistor and one of those components have to be shorted or open. Possibly a capacitor or diode itcould also be the convergence yoke for that line.

the convergence yoke are the small rings on the neck of the picture tubes closet to the circuit board on the end.

Toshiba Regza 37in - 37HL17
TV will not turn on - Yellow power ind. Light blinks three times...
Fixed with a firmware update (hard to believe, but true). Search Google for a file named: 2007SEN069.zip (don't worry if the page you find it on doesn't mention the 37HL17 - it worked fine). Unzip the file, and copy the 3 folders and 3 files to the root of a small SD card. The SD card MUST be 2GB or less in size (I used a 1GB card), and it MUST be formatted with FAT-16 (not FAT-32). Mine was pre-formatted as FAT (FAT-16). The SD port is on the back of the TV behind a cover plate near the power cable. You do NOT need to remove the back cover of the TV, just the small cover plate (1 screw). UNPLUG the TV; remove the cover plate; insert the SD card (prepped as explained above); Plug in the TV; Watch the yellow lights blink, then turn blue, then go dark; UNPLUG the TV; remove the SD Card and replace the cover; Plug in the TV; Yellow lights will blink a few times (this is normal); when blinking stops, turn on the TV and you should be good to go. :-)

3 blinks indicates lamp door is not on or has not been reinstalled properly. This also could mean the lamp door switch has failed itself. Try removing the lamp door and putting back on, if that doesnt correct the problem then I recommend having the switch replaced.

TV wont turn on but it does make the clicking noise as it is trying to do so, the power light flashes three times and extinguishes

The three blinks is an error code indicating that the convergence has failed. You can get the PT47WX49 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com whih has the 2 Convergence ICs and The 6 low ohm resistors plus the CD with repair instructions.

I have a panasonic pt-47wx42 projection monitor. It will not turn on and the red light next to the power button blinks three times

The 3 blink error is caused by failed convergence ICs and the six 2.2 ohm resistors. Installing the convergence repair kit for your model should solve the issue. The kit is available from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the 2 ICs with heat sink paste, the 6 resistors and the cd with instructions

What does three blinking red lights mean on the power, when my tv just turned off on its own no warning?

The three blinks is indicating that the convergence circuits have shorted and have shut the set down. You will need to replace the two Ics and the 6 resistors. You can get the repair kit for your model which contains the two Ics the resistors and the CD with repair instructions from www.tvrepairworld.com

Yes, the three blinks is short protection. If one or more of the 2.2 ohm blue resistors is white in the middle one of the STK-392-110 chips got it.

I may be the one whose post you saw. I have start to finish step by step instructions for this repair in this set.

I can also tell you the best place to get them and the instructions tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair in the best way.

They are based on the fact that I have fixed hundreds of these sets with the same problem you have.

Won't come on

The power board has failed and will need to be repaired or replaced. you can remove this board and, replace individual parts and save a lot of money. You will be inspecting for swollen capacitors and resistors. also, look for discolorations on the board itself.

TV turned off and now the power light blinks three times

Very common problem. 3 blinks means the convergence circuit has failed . Heres a link to the repair kit for your model which contains both convergence IC and the feed resistors and the kit has step by step instructions with pictures so you can easially do the repair yourself.

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
