Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

1 Answer

RE: Fridgedaire side by side model #106.035721. This model has plastic supports about 1" long that protrude from the side of the fridge wall to hold up either the shelves or struts for the shelves. Two of these are broken & I have replacement parts, but when I removed the old one, it left a hole (of course)that is the size of the plug/ support strut. I can put the replacement part in this hole, but it won't hold. It seems that I need some bondo or some kind of sturdy adhesive & filler. I don't know what to use. Can you advise? Thanks, Sylvia

You could use a sealant called SikaFlex. It comes in a caulking tube that you load into a caulking gun. It's the same sort of stuff they use to glue car windshields in. You can get a tube of white, fill the hole and stick your new supports to it. It should do the trick nicely.

Just a few warnings: First, wear rubber gloves, the stuff is messy and it will stay on you for days if you get any of it on you. Also, it sticks REALLY well, so it will be almost impossible to get the supports off again.

Hot plastic smell and the wall between freezer and fridge is very

This is most likely due to an overheating condenser. I have put together some instructions on how to check and repair this. Follow the link below and let me know if it helps.

My fridgedaire cannot initiate compressor

Possible start kit bad or compressor. Make sure condensor fan motor working. if not replace it. if ok replace start kit and if still a problem you can bet it is the compressor.

GE side by side freezer shelves falling down

This appears to be a known problem with at least a couple of GE models (It has been happening in our freezer too). There is a GE Service bulletin at https://customernet.geappliances.com/OTIS/fs/home_images/REF01-10.pdf that seems to describe the fix as them sending out new shelves (and maybe someone to install them?)

Pin hole in 1/4" copper tubing feeding refrigerator

Never run plastic tubing through a wall! If copper is already there, then leave it, and solder the pinhole leak back up.

If the leak is outside of the wall, then cut off the tubing that includes the pinhole, and buy a brass ferrule coupling for 1/4 inch copper to copper. Make sure that it includes a brass barrel (it may come with 2, one for each side. If not, they are sold separately as well.). Install the coupling with ferrule into one side of the coupling.

Push the barrel into the plastic tubing, and install with ferrule just like you installed the copper tubing.

Sometimes you can get a plastic ferrule for the plastic line side of the coupling.

Fridgedaire Elite frost proof fridge part not cooling, Freezer sems fine

If the frozen side is colder than normal and some extra frost is forming where the fan blows, and there is ice in the bottom of freezer compartment, and the cool side is not cool enough, their is a good possability the defrosting unit is not removing all the frost and ice . the defrosting unit has a timer (usually near thermostat) that turns off the cooling fan and compressor and turns on a small heater around the evaporator ( about 20 minutes every 2 days) (evaporaror is cold heat exchanger coil inside the back wall behind a cover near the recirculating fan0, the fan circulates air to both compartments through two small openings, if these openeing are closed by ice buildup cool air can not circulate to the cool side. cure 1. remove all food and leave fridge off for 24 hours with doors open (take precautions to ensure children can't get locked in side and suffocate, if you get a qt of water in bottom of unit (may leak on floor) ice buildup that the defrost heater can not remove melted and was your problem . turn frig on replace food on unit. cure 2. turn frig off, remove food from both sides, remove shelves that block access to evaporator, remove cover over evaporator if you see the evaporator coils free of ice look at openings (2) to other side, one may be blocked with ice the other with frost, carefully melt ice with hair dryer.
If the evaporator coil is solid ice heater or timer or fan has failed. good luck
