if the compressor is running but not cooling most likely you have a freon leak in the sealed system,you can tell by looking at the evaporator coil,the coil should have an even frost pattern covering it,if frost is just on top you have a freon leak,also if you have a defrost problem and the coil is covered with ice this also will keep it from getting cold,look at the coil to see.good luck

Can you hear it running? If so you may have a refrigerant issue. If you do not hear it running. There is an open wire bad thermostat or no power to the unit.

It is really hard to say why it shut down, but my best advice is to make a service appt. asap to have the problem looked at.

see if you can hear the evaporator fan running in the freezer. if you can't you will need to replace it as this fan pushes the cold air from the freezer into the fridge to keep it cold.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.


Is there anything else that makes you think this is a problem.
