Question about Icom IC-R5 Handheld Scanner

1 Answer

Icom F21 This may be out of your expertise but I'd like to give it a shot. I was told I would be able to use my Icom F21GM handheld radio with the motorola or cobra talkabouts. I tested it out today and was able to transmit from my Icom to the Cobra but wasn't able to receive anything on the Icom from the Cobra. Do I need to have something programmed???? Thanks

It's a frequency error. It can be corrected, just give me some time, I need to figure something out first. It might take me a day or two.

Need new end for icom r10

I have done this many times for my HAM radios and for friends and is usually simple. I can do it for you just send me your email. Cost would depend mostly on postage and part costs. I will recheck this thread daily for your reply.

Go to ICOM's web site and down load the free software. Otherwise, download the manual there in PDF format. You can go to RadioReference.com for more information.

Why wont my R10 work on battery power? The batterys are brand new? It works fine if i use the wall wart? How do u modify it to remove the cell block?

The manual for your Icom R10 can be downloaded here:

Pay particular attention to pages 7 & 8, as they deal specifically with NiCad & Alkaline battery usage and the charge switch.

If you where going to Buy one radio which one would you Buy?

I am a marine electronics technician with 28 years experience. I have also been a licensed amateur radio operator for the past 12 years. Based on my professional experience with both brands (Icom and Yaesu), I have to advise you to go with one of the Icom units. The Yaesu is a good radio, but Icom's customer support is far superior. I have had no problems dealing with their service department over the years, something I can't say about Yaesu.

Hope this helps.

Programming issues with Icom F21

What you have is a programming issue. The radios need to be "cloned" so they will all work together. You can buy the software on line for about $65.00 then you can change frequencies when ever you want.
