Got struck by lightning via the modem which was destroyed. The port that accepts the ethernet cable stays on as soon as the computer is plugged in. Power comes on but no input to the monitor.

The modem might have been obviously destroyed but so is the rest of the computer. The connection that you are talking about is the NIC and it is showing signs that it was damaged by the surge also. That means all the delicate electronic parts in the computer are toast. Time for a new computer.

I cant run my gateway GT5676 pc in normal mode with Samsung TV / Monitor

If I'm understand you correctly you said you have the HDMI Cable and the VGA Cable comming from the Computer to the TV. You should only have one cable. Either use the HDMI from the computer to the HDMI to the TV or use the VGA from the Computer to the VGA on the TV. Once you have the cable connect select your input on the TV. If you have the VGA Cable connected your input to select on the tv will probably be PC or Computer. If you use the HDMI Cable your input to select on the TV will be HDMI.

One you connect the cables and select the input try rebooting the computer and the video might show up automatically on the tv. If not you will have to hit the FN (Function key) + the correct (F1 thru F12) key that corresponds to the external display. The correct key will probably have CRT/LCD on it or it might have the icon of a display. Press and Hold the FN key then hit the correct key (F1 thru F12) that toggles the display. The display will toggle on 3 setups (Computer only, TV only, both the TV and Computer).

Now as for not being able to boot up normally that's another issue.

Connecting dual monitors to an acer aspire m3470g

What type of device did you use to connect the two monitors to the computer? Is there a switch box to select which monitor you want to see?

Connect dual monitors

The port with 15 holes is a VGA connector and most monitors have a connection for those it's a blue connector. The other you describe sounds like a DVI connector. Most new monitors have that as well and it's a white connector.

11750867-tewsfb12kpevcqwroz5uwqx5-2-0.jpg Once you have both monitors hooked up and turned on, they should automatically come on and show your Windows desktop. You may have to tweak the resolutions if the monitors are different. That can be done in the resolutions settings : Control Panel\Display\Screen Resolution

This video, starting around the 2 minute mark, gives a good overview of those settings and what they do.
How to Windows 7 Multiple Monitor Setup

One thing he mentions that is important is that the monitors are set to the right inputs or source. Look for a button, usually on the right or bottom of the monitor, that says "source" or "input" or has a symbol of an arrow pointing at into a screen - it looks like #2 in this photo:

http://en.community.dell.com/resized-image/__size/550x0/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3529/6354.monitor-settings.JPG

The monitor connected with the blue VGA connector usually says "VGA" or "Analog". The monitor with the white DVI connector usually says "DVI" or "Digital".

Good luck!

My computer comes on and a analog shows up and my screen turns blank

Is it a desktop computer? If it is, check the video cable in the back of the monitor, a blue video cable means analog input and a white video cable means it's a digital input. You may have a digital input and all you need is to press the button on the monitor that has a little monitor symbol and see if it switches input types. If you have the blue cable connected to the monitor and you still get no signal then you may have a bad video card.

I am trying to connect my HP Laptop (Compaq 6710b) to my Polycom VS7000 to use as a second monitor. I know it should work, but I have know instructions on how to link the two. Thank you! Rob Low...

You can connect a monitor to your laptop if it has a vga adapter/HDMI output on a separate graphics card (as opposed to a motherboard mounted "on board" graphics solutions) ...but I havn't heard of connecting your laptop to another computer input to use it as another monitor. Far as I know that is not possible...unless you have a very special laptop. You could, theoretically, remote connect to another computer, then you could have that computer's display on the 2nd computer...You would have to make sure "no interaction" was selected though, or someone on the laptop could access the other computer, and do whatever to it. I think Teamviewer may do it...Crossloop you need to have someone on both machines I believe. But it doesn't sound like remote connection is the solution you are asking for. What you are asking for, isn't done. (typically)

Completley blank screen on boot up

you didnt mention the brand of the screen. this may be a input issiue if it has DVI and Svga and so on. check the menu to see if the monitor can be shifted to the other source. take the cable off and make sure no pins are loose or bent. then put cable back on. if you have another monitor try this cable on the other monitor and verify this cable is working. if it is may be the monitor. does the monitor work on different computer? if so check the back side of the computer, if desk top there may be another input for another VGA. some people overlook the port 2 where they can have dual screens. and only 1 is used for boot up info. try connecting to the other port if so. if the other port is DVI then hopefully you have a dual cord if not Ebay can get you a converter for 5-8 bucks. If you are luck enough to have a card with dual ports on the card generally only one port will work unitl you plug in the second monitor then reboot.

No sound from headset plugged into monitor

From the manual I found, this model does NOT support ANY audio connections.
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/1/170b1a/170b1a_dfu_aen.pdf
170B Product Features
- 17" color LCD monitor with excellent display performance.
- Dual input-accepts both DVI Digital and VGA Analog input.
- Advanced AUTO adjustment automatically optimizes picture quality.
- Wide viewing angle technology.
- 7.1 (181mm) small footpring with full detachable cables.
- USB Bay for upgrade to USB Hub.
- Optional protective cover to prevent LCD panel damage.
- Standard VESA mounting holes and optional tilt/swivel Wall Mount Kit.

But if yours does have these ports, I would suggest they are not for a headset, but for connection to the _PC_. I would suggest your model monitor has built in speakers, and the green port is the INPUT from the PC Speaker output. The pink goes back to the PC from the MIC which is built into the screen.

When i turn monitor on it comes up with vga input no input signal

Hi nobumsteers,

This is most often caused by your VGA cable becoming detached from either the back of your computer or it's connection to the back of the monitor. First, check by unplugging both connections and re-attaching them firmly back into both ends.

If it still displays the no input signal error, then most likely your computer's video card is not transmitting signal to the monitor. So we need to make sure that the video card is working.

If your blue connection in the back of the computer is located near all of the rest of the cables (very close proximity, less than 1 inch apart) then you are using an 'on-board' video card. If you purchase a new video card and place it in one of your lower, available PCI or PCI-Express card slots in your computer and connect your VGA cable to that, you should have video again. But this would be a solution to a defective on-board video card, which if it is still under a warranty should be repaired by your Manufacturer.

Hope that helps.
