If you already have a card reader and it's not connecting to your system, it may be defective. I had that problem, and got a new card reader. Problem solved.

Why is the boot drive letter not C: after installing Windows XP on a blank...

The Windows setup process did not assign drive letter C: to the hard drive during the Windows XP/2000/NT installation process. WHY did this happen?

During the installation of Windows XP (2000 and NT use the same process) after a BLANK hard disk drive has been installed in the system, the setup process does not AUTOMATICALLY assign drive letter C: to the HDD. This can happen because an existing hard drive partition was not detected by setup and one of the following:

1. There is a Media Card Reader in the system
2. There is a Zip Drive in the system
3. There is a USB Flash Drive connected to the system
4. There is a USB Printer connected to the system that has a media card reader
5. There is an External Hard Drive connected to the system

If, any of these devices are in the system, setup will assign drive letter C: to one of these devices and then the hard disk drive (HDD) ends up with drive letter H or such. The boot drive letter in and of itself is not a big deal. Anyone with a multi-boot system like mine at home is familiar with non-C: boot drives and they per se cause no problems (You just have to know the drive letter of your boot drive).

To prevent this from happening, boot to your Windows CD and run the setup thru the creation and formatting of the hard drive. Power the system off manually, then restart the Windows installation. The partition you created on the last install will be detected and assigned drive letter C:

Install hard drive in hp a1310n

You need to do a number of things:

1) You need to carefully remove the door and the whole front face of the desktop (the front face opens like a door it swings open from left to right)

2) Once you have the front pannel open take a philips screwdriver and unscrew the memory card readers that is show in front of the deskop (there is one screw holding this card reader in place probably on the upper right hand corner.

3) Carefully remove the card reader by jiggiling it lightly till the unit comes off.

4) After you remove the card reader, you will immediatly see the hard drive directly behind the reader that you just removed.

5) Now look inside the desktop (because you removed the right hand side door: the big one that alows you to see inside the pc) and remove all cables from this hard drive before you read #6 below

6) Inside the desktop, Locate the hard drive, put your hand on the back of it and lift on the green plastic part along side the hard drive where you can see the harddrive screw which is on a metal track stopped by a green plastic stopper.

7) Lift the green plastic stopper and push the back of the hard drive to the front of the desktop.

8) Unscrew all screws from old hard drive and rescrew them on the new one in the exact same spots at the old hard drive.

9)Once you finish screwing on the screws, slide the new hard drive back from where the old one was

10) reconnect all data cables and power supply cable.

11) follow steps 7 thru 1 to put unit back together again. Go thru steps 7 thru one backwards

I hope this helps

Go into the Bios and set the boot order to HDD (hard drive) as first boot device, save the changes and exit the bios, the computer will restart and try to boot from the HDD.

SD MEMORY CARD!!!!

Hi Sandra,

If you are attempting to transfer photos off an SD card in your camera and you are connecting your camera directly to your PC then you may want to get an external SD card reader as this is a fairly common problem and an external reader should solve it.

If you are already using a card reader I would think that the cables connecting the reader to your computer are defective. To test this try connecting your card reader to a different USB port, if it functions fine then you know the problem is with the previous port you were connecting too.

ALSO, check in "my computer" and see if it registers as a removable drive there. If not, then check in the device manager while the card is inserted and look for any yellow icons. There is a chance that the card reader need a driver installed or updated.

Hope this helps and please take a second to rate!

My card reader is erasing pictures before I can download them

Try go to device manager and delete the 9 in one card reader, then tell device manager to scan for new hardware, the 9 in 1 card reader should be re-detected, drivers should be re-installed and the reader assigned a new drive letter. Good luck!

How to i attach an external Card Reader to my mainboard, K9N SLI?

Simplest solution is an external USB Card reader connected to an External USB port.

I suggest that you get a card reader that has it's own power source if possible as card readers tend to draw a lot of power from the USB bus.

Imstalling internal card reader

Well, installing an internal card reader without a spot on the motherboard, is a little hard to do. I would suggest buying an external card reader. They are a little cheaper, and a lot easier to setup and use, since they just connect to a USB port which all computers have.
