This has nothing to do with the drive. If you used a program to secure the data on your drive, only the same program, with the correct password, can unlock your data. You are the only one that can guess what password you used. There is no other way. If you don't need the data anymore, you should be able to wipe the drive and give it a format. You will lose all data for ever if you do so.

Forgot password to porsche hard drive

Was this a BIOS password? (did you have to type a password to boot the laptop into Windows?) If so the password will be a firmware based password that is built into the hard drive, you will need to send to a data recovery company to recover (www.digitalrecovery.co.nz are cheap and good) but if sending to New Zealand is problematic just google local data recovery.

Yes, you can transfer your DATA from one to the other but not programs. Programs write information into the registry and as a result cannot be transfered to anoter machine. There are programs that can do it. LapLink is one. I have know connection with LapLink software.
I have used it and in general it works but ther can be some minor gliches.
Hope this helps. I do this for fun, not $$, so your feed back is my reward.

download a data recovery program and use the program to scan the pend drive and recover lost files. I used a file recovery program called asoftech data recovery before, quite easy to use and works well for me, you may download and have a try.

External hard drive not recognized

Some of the externals have mapping issues in Windows.  Although the TB shows in devices, you may need to remap it (right click on My Computer for mapping options) and in some cases, changing the drive letter will fix your problem.  There's really no 1 definitive solution for these.  If you're unable to fix the problem by remapping or changing the drive letter, you can partition the drive to recover your data.  As far as the slow transfer rate goes, almost all externals are formatted in FAT.  This has issues of its own with safely removing devices and slow transfer rates.  I prefer to format my externals and flash drives in NTSF for more reliability.  Best of luck.

My segate 300Gb HDD keeps asking to format it when i recently pluged it into a new computer to transfer data to and it said that the driver didnt install correctly. since then it keeps asking to forma

I'm assuming that this was functioning at one point. If you are using Windows, Right click on my computer and click "Manage" Then go to disk management? Does it see the drive at all. If so, has a letter been assigned? It is possible that the operating system will show the drive even if it can't read the data. Look to see what file system and how it sees the disk having been partitioned. It is possible that your partition table has been corrupted. This can possibly be fixed using a tool like disk doctor or fdisk.

If, on the other hand, the drive is also making funny noises, you may have a mechanical failure on the drive.

Hard Drive Data Recovery

Well, in your case the MOST effective way is to try some so-called data recovery software.

First of ALL - Connect your hard drive to your personal computer. And install this software Wondershare Data Recovery on the computer in order to perform data recovery. Get the program from its site.
data recovery (for Windows OS)
Mac data recovery (for Mac OS X)

Good luck. I hope that my reply has shed some light on the problem!
