Question about IBM ThinkPad T43 Notebook

1 Answer

No power My t43 is completely dead - no light, no beeps, nothing. Doesn't work with the power adapter or battery. I've also tried taking out the battery. Let me explain what I think caused it. I have an external USB harddisk. My laptop was on and I had the USB disk plugged in. I was looking at the USB cord and I notice it looked like it had been chewed on (I recently had a problem of mice in my house) as I examined the cord I touched one of the chewed sections where the insulations had been cut and the was a little bare wire. As soon as I touched it my laptop went dead. I'm thinking I caused a short or something, unless it was just a coincidence. Is there a fuse or somethign I can check on the mother board? Thanks

Check and verify the AC adapter is working.
If it is then you can try removing the battery with the adapter connected try to boot the laptop.
If it boots, reinstall the battery and check to see if it is charging.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

My laptop is completely dead, fine yesterday. Today no lights, sounds nothing. I tried removing the battery , unplugging no response. Thanks,

Remove the battery for at least 3 minutes... Then put it back and then plug in the charger and switch on the charger. If the battery is completely drained, it would take a while for the charging to initiate. Please have patience and leave it on charging even though without the charging indication for at least an hour. After that still if the charging indicator doesn't lit, then its definitely your charger or laptop. You will need to take it to a service centre in that case.

Unfortunately it sounds like you either have a bad charger (the best case) or a bad motherboard (worst case). Before you do anything else try using a universal power adapter or a new charger. If that doesn't work it sounds like something has gone bad on your laptop's motherboard.

Ibm thinkpad T43 lap is not charging when connected with ac power supply .Can u help me

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solderjoint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Try taking the battery out, and putting it back in, hold the start button till it comes on. If not, it's possible it's just un-chargeable. And you'll have to goto ibm.com to look for a replacement battery. Let me know if this helps

Remove the battery and the ac adapter the memory as well.Press and hold the power button down for twenty seconds.Once done put the battery in and the power in,no memory. If it beeps with the memory out the memory might be bad what the beeping signifies is the motherbord is good.Unfortunatly if you have no power lights the motherboard is bad.
good luck

Laptop wont boot and the battery and power lights flash

a simple power cycle might work. Take out the battery but keep the ac power connected. hold the poewr button down for 1 minute. then hit the power button again and it should poewr back up. If this doesn' t work. iyou said hte battery light flashes so the problem isnt the battery..the problem might be hte ac power adapter..if you have a warranty this would be a good time to call them. Try the power cycle first though this fixes the problems lots of the time

Thinkpad T43 wont get any AC power

I've run into this many times with IBM machines. The power management chip on the motherboard has failed. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.
