Help to start please

It just keeps rebooting with no screen at all even with an external screen - nothing. I've replaced the ram with one i have tested on another pc that works.I've removed the battery ,reset the bios (removal of cmos battery) ran the system with and without the battery (direct power) all to no avail.I've even removed the hdd to see if that will show a screen to show problems anyway i don't know whats wrong any ideas please? thanks in advance it will keep rebooting about every 30 seconds by itself with no screen. Even if i use esc ,del, f10 keys ect makes no difference. The hdd seems to be ok (tested in different pc) It dos'nt seem to getting either to the post or skipping it then rebooting
thank you

It keeps rebooting going from showing the Compaq name and Windows Home Edition back to Compaq and Windows Home Edition in an endless boot.

I think some of the programming necessary for booting your computer was on the other ram you removed. I noticed the same problem when I added memory to my lap top. If I switched the original ram to the second slot from the one which it was in, the laptop does not start. It gives the same problem with the new ram in the old slot. I guess you could call it one and two since #1 is below the #2 slot in my laptop. Why dont you try putting the old ram in the slot it was in and add the new ram in a new slot? hope this helps

It's possible the power cord is defective only giving enough power for a partial boot. I would try another power cord.
If it's not the powercord then it would definitely be the motherboard not taking the power and distributing it correctly and you would have to replace it.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Gateway laptop powers up but screen does not come up.

Why did you replace the lcd inverter? Were you able to barely see icons on the desktop which is an indication that the lcd inverter is bad? If not, then you need to replace the lcd screen. If you could barely see the icons and you replaced the lcd inverter, then the inverter is bad. Just because the inverter is new does not mean it works. If the video shows on the external monitor, but you can't see anything on the laptop's screen even when you shine a flashlight on it then the lcd screen is bad.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your ideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad.
If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

Asus K52N Series Multi recorder not recognised

Start hitting F2 even before the screen comes up and keep hitting it about every one second until the Bios screen comes up... Also, it could be that your Multi-Drive is dead and needs to be replaced...

hi,
if nothing(even hp logo ) is not coming on the display then please try this.
1.remove the battery and then press the power button for 30 sec.Again refix it and check.
2.If windows sound is there then this mught be the issue with display.

3.If there is no windows sound might be the issue with RAM so please get it checked.

Lights turn on when starting up but screen stays black

Reboot and hold down the delete key to open the bios. Reset the bios to default settings then see if that fixes it. If not you may have to reload the computer to its factory load.

sounds like the mother board is failed..try one more thing..remove battery, run on power supply only, and see if that helps..otherwise, it's motherboard replacement time.

Startup problem with Compaq Presario F500

Hello cccar,

"it just keeps rebooting with no screen at all even with an external screen"

I take it you mean that everytime you reboot you see nothing.....not that when you switch it on the computer reboots?

If it is that it just reboots all the time, it may be that the screen is not getting enough time to show anything. However, there are some viruses that stop the screen from showing too...so to check that put the hard drive in to another machine and run a full virus checker on it.

However, IF it is that the machine does not have a virus, and/or that the machine IS getting enough time to show a screen, then I am afraid it is either that the video cable is not working (the cable that connects the screen to the computer) or that the graphic card (or mother board if you dont have a separate graphic card) is at fault.

try hooking up an external video source. Check to see if the computer is actually booting up. if the computer boots up, then the LCD invertor or Backlight of the screen is bad, need to be replaced.

If the computer does not boot up after hooking up an external video source, then most likely your motherboard is bad!

need to be replaced.
