Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television

1 Answer

TRANSFORMERS I bought this TV about 2.5 years ago. All the sudden I turn it on and I hear what sounds like an electrical short and I smell electrical burning. I currently have it in the repair shop and they tell me it is the flyback transformer and a high voltage transformer. Cost of repairs including pickup is $582.00. I would like to know just how difficult it is to repair this myself. They tell me parts are only $122.00 and the rest is labor and pickup/delivery fees. HELP!

You can get the parts at the following link and they provide free online instant messaging for free. or they can rebuild your entire deflection board for just a little more than what the parts cost and guarantee the board for 6 full months. Heres the link. you can leave them a email if you would like more info.

There are a few other problems like the ballast or color wheel. Hear any sounds? Smell anything?

I had the same problem, try running the TV on Mute, if it is a bad solder joint the sound can vibrate the solder point and trip the relay, if the TV doesn't trip off with the sound on mute then it is probably the big power transformer's solder connection needs resoldered. sound vibration from those big pioneer speakers may loosen the solder joint over a period of time because the transformer is heavier and bulky and vibrates a lot.

I have a d52w23 rca less than three years old

sounds like what is know as the flyback. also known as the ihvt and yes this is a transformer. to get the correct part for rca you have to get the model extension number this will be like d52w23yx1 or yx2 or something like that. generally when we replace the flyback. we check the horizontal output because it is most likely shorted

Please see http://www.fixya.com/support/t1011937-transformers. It sounds like your flyback transformer is not properly soldered down/is failing.

Smoking tv!!!

Good Day, gongora326;
It sounds like the TV has some type of short in the power or high voltage circuits.
I would recommend that you call a factory authorized service company to come to your home and give you an estimate.
I hope you take my advice, good luck, big IRISH.

Panasonic WIDESCREEN 52" hdtv: power tries to come on and then there is a burning smell. The power button LED on the TV flashes several times. This starting happening after the TV was on and suddenly...

check of fluid leak from the tubes, check to see where the burning smell is comming from. could be anode, hv wire, splitter, surge caps in h-circuit, but it sounds like a high voltage transformer.
what is your model number of your tv?

Turning on problem with Panasonic Viva PT-43LC14

Sounds as you have a bad ballest. The ballest is the power supply that turns your lamp on. You can check your lamp by removing it and it should be clear and no broken pieces of glass. With the lamp removed install the cover and turn it on you should hear no noise and when the power light turns red you should see a LAMP red led blink every 5 seconds. If no noise then the lamp is bad. If you do hear noise you have a bad ballist. Hope this helps. Frank

Hitachi 65inch Projection TV

Oh so it is a used TV set. You may have the leaking CRT coolant dripping onto the printed circuit boards and shorting them out. Have you tried the video inputs yet? If those are bad as well, the DM-1 board could be bad. There really is no definite thing that could cause this I'm afraid. Have the set checked out be a trained tech. Good Luck

Loud electrical sounds

It sounds like the Power transistor that drives the High Voltage Transformer shorted out. The rapid clicking sound you are hearing when pressing the power button now is that of the power supply starting to come up, detecting a short circuit and shutting back off again, preventing further damage. It is likely that the HV Transformer is shorted as well which usually causes the Output transistor to fail. Since the set is only 2 1/2 years old, it is probably worthwhile getting it to a repair shop as long as you have been very satisfied with the picture quality up to this point. If the picture size was larger than you needed, you might consider going down to a 37" LCD HDTV set. Toshiba is tops in this category IMHO.
