This depends if the cables were plugged in or not...If they were, probably the jack for the defective input has had the solder to the board broken OR the cable has been damaged. Move the kick to a tom inout and see if the trigger works... If it does, then the Kick inout connector is probably broken away from the solder. Unit will have to be opened for inspection to find the defect. If the kick doesn't work at all in the other position, the cable from the kick MAY have been stretched or brolen.

My bass drum pad doesn't work I get a drum sound when I put the lead into the module but nothing from the kick pad. I tried another lead to a tom and the bass drum but this wouldn't work either. I...

If you have already tried a different cable and it didn't work, then the issue might be with the bass drum pad itself. You can try the following steps to troubleshoot:
  1. Check the connection: Make sure that the cable is firmly plugged into both the bass drum pad and the module. If the connection is loose, the signal may not be transmitted properly.
  2. Check the sensitivity setting: Check the sensitivity settings on the module for the bass drum pad. It is possible that the sensitivity is set too low, and the pad is not registering hits.
  3. Check the pad: Check the bass drum pad for any visible damage or wear. It is possible that the trigger inside the pad is damaged or malfunctioning.
  4. Reset the module: Try resetting the module to its default settings. Sometimes, this can fix issues with individual pads.
If none of these steps work, it may be necessary to open up the pad and check the trigger mechanism inside. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, you can take it to a repair technician.

I have an IED 11 kit. Today when I plugged it in to play, both pedals have spontaneously stopped working to trigger the kick drum. I tried numerous experiments to figure out the cause of the problem. ...

Good job of troubleshooting... I assumed you have tried other triggers into the kick drum input and found it is dead. This leaves the problem in the "brain". Look in your manual for anything to do with sensitivity of the kick drum input. It is likely all the inouts are sampled and digitized by the same A-D convertor via a multiplexor switch. I was unable to find the schematic of your unit so I downloaded one for a Roland TD8. Often the different companies rob designs from eachother so one can glean methods from a different brand. As expected the inouts are conditioned and then go to a MUXX chip that samples the input. The signals are conditioned before going to the MUX by a limiter and before that there is an RF bypass cap on the input. IF you might have had a static discharge, that capcitor(s) may have shorted rendering those inouts dead. This is what I want you to try:with a suitable cable I would like you to pulse the kick input by momentarily connecting a 9 volt batery to it... try both polarities. If NEITHER polarity fires the kick, then I want you to take an ohmmeter and measure the resistance of the input. The Roland schematic has coupling capcitors and if your brand has similar circuits you should see infinite resistance... if you find it very low, say 100 ohms, probablly the RF bypass cap at the input is shorted. These will be surface mounted caps and you need to be a bit adept at electronic repair to replace them. Essentially I believe you will find a failure in teh interface ckt where those inputs come in.

The kick pad on my DTXpress II stopped working, and I have no idea how to troubleshoot (and am not eager to take it apart). I bought a new (used) one, and that doesn't work either. Thanks for any help!

First try connecting one of your other pads to the one for the kick. See if you can trigger the kick sound from it. IF you CANNOT, then there is a problem with that input OR the setting in the box.

These devices are NOT magic. They typically use a piezo disc sensor similar to those in some musical Christmas cards.(note that some of those now use small speakers.

the piezo discs can be caused to vibrate if an AC signal is applied, or they can generate a voltage when compressed.

IF the problem is in the kick trigger, you might as well CAREFULLY take it apart. You will probably find the disc is glued or was glued to the back of the rubber pad... The problem SHOULD be obvious as well as a solution... it will likely be broken gluing OR a broken wire... But do this ONLY if you veriify the problem is in the trigger and not the box input.

The trigger ONLY generate a voltage pulse of varying amplitude which then goes to the box which is where the sound is actually generated.

Sampling into yamaha dtxpress iv

If you have a sampler, you could midi out of the DTX brain into the midi in of the sampler to trigger the sounds. If not ,try downloading KORE2 from Native Instruments onto your computer and triggering it using the above mentioned method . Midi out from your brain to Midi in on your computer. Hope this helps.

try a wooden snare, a light kick drum, the most natural hi hat you can find, some soft cymbals and a selection of wooden and metal percussion instruments.

One of my cymbals just stop working, i've unplugged it from the cymbal, turned the amp off and on, restarted the system and nothing seems to be working. I did unplug it from the "brain" i believe, (i just...

Try these:

- change the interconnection cable between the cymbal and the "brain" unit, if the problem goes away, you have a bad cable.

- if the problem persists, see if that particular cymbal works well on another input of the "brain" unit, if it does, you have a problem with the input on the "brain unit", this will require servicing if the unit still has a warranty, otherwise you should first check the solder contacts on the input that doesn't work (also check for dirt /oxydation on the plug contacts and clean if necessary).

- If that particular cymbal won't work when you plug it into any "brain" cymbal inputs (it's basically a piezo trigger so it should work on other inputs), then you have either a broken wire on the piezo trigger or on the cable connector in that cymbal (it should be possible to resolder), or the piezo trigger itself is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I hope you can find out what troubles your drum kit.

Add more paths to the drum kit

A line splitter I would asume. Some people just by two brains or more and make a really huge set. I would recomend just buying to brains, alot easyer and more options to chose from.

My Bass Drum trigger just stopped working .

this is an easy problem to fix. The piezo piece on the inside of your bass drum trigger uses a double sided tape that is fixed to a metal disc. the piezo trigger just fell off. mine did the same thing. I actually glued mine with epoxy and have not looked back.
