Question about RCA D52W19 52" Rear Projection Television

Symmetry How risky is it for an ameteur to fix picture symmetry ? My picture is not centered and bowed on the sides. I know this reguires changing settings, but have heard it can be easily messed up.

more ametuer than that seeing I don't know what that is.

I try to stay away from projects that could kill me, high voltage, etc...

I was under the impression that it was code driven.

Getting into some techie menu and changing values, which could have bad results.

yes indeed if a circuit has malfuctioned then all the menu driven adjustments made will be useless i suggest you could see if there was an electrical problem first then if not the menu adjustment may fix. Do you have schmatic RCA puts them on CD rom and you must know the code to get into the service alignments.

the next time it is not working go into the customer menu with remote and call up the convergence grid and look---there---if convergence is way off and or comes and goes---this set uses 2 Stk-392-570 ic's and it is quite common to see them become intermittant.

Pioneer SD-532HD5 - Picture Bowed on sides only on 1080I

The problem you are describing is known as a pincushoin problem. I'm a bit surprized that you only see it on the 1080i signal though. I've inquired at my Pioneer contact about this and will update this soon.

Stay tuned...

Most likely you had a power surge issue that caused the tubes in your crt projection to malfunction. I would recommend having a service call done to find out the issue

Sudden discoloration, ghosting, bowed horizontal lines in top and bottom of picture

The convergence ICs probably have a cracked solder joint on the foil side of the circuit board. Re-flowing the the solder would help. I will always replace the convergence ICs when doing this job. The labor remains the same and you will have to pay a few extra bucks for the parts. To fix this yourself, you will need to be able to identify the two convergence ICs, have a basic knowledge of electronics and be able to use a soldering iron. You will also have to do an alignment through the service menu.
