Question about GE 46GW947 46" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

TV Turned off, now there is a clicking noise when plugged in.

The other night I was watching TV, and it turned off randomly. Now, whenever we plug it in, the tv just makes a clicking noise like a fan slowing down or something. Any help would be appreciated.

Had a 51" GE rear projection donated to myself. While off and power button pressed there was a clicking noise from the front of the unit. Rear cover was removed and it could be observed that the hv splitter had a crack in the casing and the power was arcing out of the splitter. I purchased a $72 dollar hv splitter, i read that the $20-$30 dollar one would break within a year, and the unit powered up no problems.

The clicking you hear is probably caused by a relay that controls the incoming AC to the main power supply. This is a protective reaction to a problem in the power supply itself or an overload due to a failure downstream from the supply. This is not a likely DIY repair. You will probably need a technician to determine which of these two likely problems it is.

Will not turn on

Does the set make any sounds. DOes the front green led light or flash when you try to turn it on.. if not then it could be as simple as a fuse, if it does flash then it can be many problems

TV went out

Hey Jim, The high voltage protection circuit has gone out on the D-board and will need to be replaced. The fuse to the power supply is probably fine. A good repair tech shouldn't charge over $125 for this and it only takes a couple of hours. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
