Hi If you can see my solution
It sounds like your printer is conflicting with a Virtual printer port

If you have created a second printer in the past and or added on recently this is what happens.

On your printer that you are using in the control panel Right Click
    *properties and select *ports

From there scroll down and look at the USB and there should only be one listed for printers if there are more that one USB box make sure that you remove the check marks and only check the printer you are using.

If there is a USB box and next to it you see "Virtual printer Port"
we can move on to the next steps

I will wait for a responce or you can click here on my

Open the control panel. Open scanner and Faxes. There you will find the scanner listed. Scan fom there.

If you are able to scan from there that means the Dell software you are using is corrupted and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

When we use the scanners option from the control panel we are using the windows default utility to scan, not the third party software.

I ma sure this will resolve the issue..

Uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software looks easy however it is not.
We need to follow three step uninstallation.
    1. Uninstall the software from Add and Remove Programs.
    2. Delete the software from Program Files under C drive.
    3. Remove the Entries from the Registry.
Restart the computer and than install the software again.

While installing the software make sure that the AIO in not plugged in till the software comes to the portion of detecting the AIO.

  • Sameer Kashyap Sep 06, 2008

If you are getting the error you mentioned. First do a Fleepower.
Which is. Turn off the Computer and the AIO.
Unplug the AIO From the Computer. Unplug the power of the AIO and the Computer.
Press and hold the power button on both the computer and the AIO for 20 seconds(Nothing would show up)....Its a step to drain any static charges.

Than turn on he computer and later plug the AIO back in and try the scan from the control panel again.

  • Sameer Kashyap Sep 06, 2008

Did you try the fleepower and used the scanner from the control panel again..

The machine uses the same device (lens) to do both copy and scan, however the copy feature doesn't require the computer, the scan does. The copy feature can be use as a stand alone, and make copies without even being attached to the computer, the scan sends the copy (item being scanned) to the computer for viewing, editing, email, etc... I'm going to say that this is a simple software glitch, and removing and reinstalling the software will fix it.

If the print copy and scan function works then that means there is nothing wrong with the hardware. Most likely the problem would be software. You can do one of 2 things. Update the driver for the multi or another option is to restore your system to the date when it was still working. If it has been more than just a few days DO NOT DO IT. Now as for the driver update you can go to www.dell.com and then just download the driver for it. Secondly goto the device manager.

Click start then run then type in devmgmt.msc
Click ok this will bring out the device manager.
After htat look at imaging devices check if you see your scanner there.
If you do not look if you are able to see anything with a question mark or exclamation point.

If you would be willing to setup a time this weekend I can arrange to work on your computer remotely, from my computer to see if we can get your scanner to work. If you would just like some chat support tell em and I will begin troubleshooting. Okay?

The scanner uses a light source, typically a cold cathode lamp to illuminate the scanned object. The light is then reflected off the object and into Charged Coupled Device (CCD). The Charged Coupled Device collects the information, and through a series of electronic devices converts the analog signal into a series of digital signals which can then be read and processed by the internal electronics of the scanner and subsequently a computer.
so its not a lens at all

The printer is fine, it copies.
Just unplug USB and reinstall drivers, either from printer disk or from download.

The problem lies in your optic lens of the scanner. every other feature works except that so it is not the drivers or software issue. you need to have a service tech repair it.

You can give this a try:

NOTE: Scanning cannot be done on printers connected to a network.
Using the Operator Panel
1. With the printer on, and make sure they are properly connected.
2. Load your original document.
3. Press the Mode Selector on the operator panel repeatedly until Scan is selected.
4. Press > to scroll through the list of possible programs to which you can scan.
5. Press Select when the program to which you want to scan appears.
6 From the Start area on the operator panel, press Black to begin a black and white scan or Color to being a color scan.

Using the Printer Software

NOTE: Some programs do not support multiple page scanning.
1. Turn on your computer and printer, and make sure they are properly connected.
2. Load your original document.
3. Press Scan on the operator panel.
The Dell All-In-One Center appears on your computer screen.
4. Click Preview Now to see your scanned image.

NOTE: If the size of the scan (found in the lower right of the preview window) appears in red, you do
not have the system resources available to perform the scan at the resolution or size you have
selected. To correct this problem, either reduce your resolution or the size of your scan area. Or you can use editing applications like photoshop and the likes to lower the resolution of the image that you want to scan.

5. Adjust the dotted lines to fit around the part of the image you want to print.
6. From the Send scanned image to drop-down menu, select your scan destination.
7. To further customize your scan job, click See More Scan Settings.
8. When you are finished customizing your image, click Scan Now.

Hope that helps!

If you are in an office, and the printer is like centralized, trace the USB cable at back of the printer if it is connected directly to the back of the computer or connected to another device. If the USB cable is connected directly to the back of the PC, it is not connected to a network, otherwise, it is connected to the network so the scanning wont work. That's a product limitation base from the printer's manual. It can only scan if the device is hooked directly to a computer.

My HP6110xi All-In-One doesn't want to scan

First, scans and copies don't really use the computer. Can you print a document from your printer. If not, then your problem is within the computer.

If it does print then....

Try using the scan feature within the HP solution center. It works on mine but the scan button on the printer does. Also some art programs have and "ACQUIRE" feature under file to scan with. (Sometimes called TWAIN.)

Hope this helps, so you can start scanning.

good luck

Scanned documents are very light

I have found that when scanning b/w documents, its helpful to start with a black and white copy, not a grayscale, pen written, or printed form a printer in grayscale mode copy, but a true black and white on the copier or fax copy. The scanner doesnt read shades of black so well and when scanning multiple page documents, my pixma tends to scan in lightly. I havent found a piece of software to do just this, batch darken what has been scanned (at least not for free). Copying before scanning is the work around. Hope this helps everyone who's had this problem. It also doesnt hurt to darken what your scanning down a notch when copying
