Question about RCA DRC8030N

Lost Library My refurb. unit started out with just a "Hello". Found a shop that fixed it (C.C. Bell in St. Louis) but, 7 months later, I lost everything in my 'Library' and could not set the timer anymore. Back to C.C., they said the hard drive was shot and they couldn't get replacements from the national RCA Consumer Electronics distributor. So I put in a different hard drive and I am back to the 'Hello' only. It is now back at C.C. to see if they can get past the 'Hello' or am I out another $90 for their looksee.

Now they tell me it is the DVD-RW that is bad. Is there a alternative DVD-RW drive, or is there special firmware or software that has to be on it?

My unit started doing the same thing just saying Hello-Hello. The power button does not work to turn it off but I can hear the hard drive spin up. Also there is no spin up of the DVR. There was a power transformer that had went out in the alley behind us and I thought that might have been the problem. Because of that, the insurance will not pay for repairs or replacement and I hate being out $200. Is it most likely the DVR (I could replace that) or is it something that I couldn't fix myself? Thanks.

We have the smae problem as all it will do is say " hello" . You can hear dvd try to start up, then hello flashes ,pauses, then it all starts over again. No buttons or remote will do anything. Unit is only about 1 year old. Don,t know if library is lost as it won,t do anything.

Reading some of these other posts sounds like we bought a piece of ****. Would sending this in for repair be wasting more money,or has anybody been satisfied with their repairs?

Did they mention how they foxed the original HELLO message issue? The DVD-RW tends to stop working on these models and I can't find a darn thing from the internet or from the Korean based manufacurer on a firmwre or a flashhing software that will reset or fix these flaky DVD-RW drives. After you replaced the hard drive and started getting the HELLO all over, maybe it is due to the hard drive not being set as SLAVE via the jumper on the rear. Please let me know if they found a way to fix the flaky DVD-RW...thanks.

No fix yet or firmware out for these "Loader" brand DVD-RW drives. You can put in any DVD drive or DVD-RW drive (just configure the master-slave jumper correctly). The only challenge in replacing the drive is lining it up correctly so that the drive will open and close. If you don't really care about playing or recording DVDs, then simply leave any cheapo drive in the unit and use the DVR only for its hard drive recording capabilities.

This is a common problem with Broncos, The dealer can solve this by Re-Flashing the ECM, Engine Control Module, or at worst, Re-Programming the ECM. Auto Plaza Ford in St. Louis quoted $129.00 for the diagnosis and Re-Flash and $109.00 additional if it needed a complete Re-Program. The Problem will come back if not fixed.
