Question about RCA DRC8030N

2 Answers

Lost Library My refurb. unit started out with just a "Hello". Found a shop that fixed it (C.C. Bell in St. Louis) but, 7 months later, I lost everything in my 'Library' and could not set the timer anymore. Back to C.C., they said the hard drive was shot and they couldn't get replacements from the national RCA Consumer Electronics distributor. So I put in a different hard drive and I am back to the 'Hello' only. It is now back at C.C. to see if they can get past the 'Hello' or am I out another $90 for their looksee.

Now they tell me it is the DVD-RW that is bad. Is there a alternative DVD-RW drive, or is there special firmware or software that has to be on it?

My unit started doing the same thing just saying Hello-Hello. The power button does not work to turn it off but I can hear the hard drive spin up. Also there is no spin up of the DVR. There was a power transformer that had went out in the alley behind us and I thought that might have been the problem. Because of that, the insurance will not pay for repairs or replacement and I hate being out $200. Is it most likely the DVR (I could replace that) or is it something that I couldn't fix myself? Thanks.

We have the smae problem as all it will do is say " hello" . You can hear dvd try to start up, then hello flashes ,pauses, then it all starts over again. No buttons or remote will do anything. Unit is only about 1 year old. Don,t know if library is lost as it won,t do anything.

Reading some of these other posts sounds like we bought a piece of ****. Would sending this in for repair be wasting more money,or has anybody been satisfied with their repairs?

Did they mention how they foxed the original HELLO message issue? The DVD-RW tends to stop working on these models and I can't find a darn thing from the internet or from the Korean based manufacurer on a firmwre or a flashhing software that will reset or fix these flaky DVD-RW drives. After you replaced the hard drive and started getting the HELLO all over, maybe it is due to the hard drive not being set as SLAVE via the jumper on the rear. Please let me know if they found a way to fix the flaky DVD-RW...thanks.

No fix yet or firmware out for these "Loader" brand DVD-RW drives. You can put in any DVD drive or DVD-RW drive (just configure the master-slave jumper correctly). The only challenge in replacing the drive is lining it up correctly so that the drive will open and close. If you don't really care about playing or recording DVDs, then simply leave any cheapo drive in the unit and use the DVR only for its hard drive recording capabilities.

Dvd drive cannot read cds and vcds but can read dvds only

I had the inverse problem on my unit - 7 months after I bought it brand new it wouldn't read DVD's, but would read CD's no problem -- I bought a replacement loader from LG, swopped them out myself and now works 100%.

Turned out the laser for reading DVD's had gone - they use different lasers or wavelengths or something... :)

LOST DIRECTIONAL BOOKLET & CAN'T GET UNIT TO WORK !

These players don't play through channels like the old school VCRs or some early DVD players.
This is either connected through your HDMI or component video cable input on your HDTV.
You need to toggle through your inputs on your TV to the proper one where your BD Player is connected through.
If you have it connected to an analog TV, then you need to toggle through your TV inputs as well. Usually called Video 1, Video 2, Etc.

When I insert a dvd I get "BAD" dvd error...does this mean the unit is bad, or can I reset something, or will a cleaner work? Thanx

Does this happen with more than one disc? This seems to be a common problem with this unit. Have you tried contacting the company?

I might be willing to sell you mine! The power supply burned up on my unit after having it only 3 months. It would cost me as much to fix as it would just to go out and buy a new one. I can tell you for sure though that I won't be buying this model again!

Go-Video has been going through some trying times. They were based in Scottdale, AZ but their old website govideo.com is no longer up. I did find a new website: http://www.govideoelectronics.com/home.html The contact information says Go-Video is currently owned by DPI, Inc. based in St. Louis, Missouri. Telephone number listed is (314)621-3314. Good Luck.
