Question about Admiral 26 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My Admiral side by side fridge freezer is not self defrosting. Hence the fridge freezer stops cooling. When I switch it off and defrost it and then switch it back on it works for about a month and then the same thing happens again. Do I need to call in an expert or can I replace the part myself? (Fairly handly female)

If your Admiral refrigerator is not equipped for automatic defrosting, your only alternative is to defrost it manually every month. There is a reason why automatic defrosting has become so popular.

SOURCE: Frozen Fridge

the temperature controlis most likely bad since you cant control it. the control is the knob you turn to set the temp with. you should be able to replace it yourself fairly easily.

Replace the compressor start relay.
If this does not solve the problem you most likely have a bad compressor.
Your fridge may be under a 5 year compressor warranty.

SOURCE: No self defrosting. Ice builds up clogging the

Hi. Are you having frost build up or is the drain icing up?
If it is frost, remove the rear panel inside the freezer and check the defrost heater and the bi-metal switch for continuity. If either switch shows no continuity, replace that switch. The bi-metal switch which is located on the top of the evaporator coil, needs to be tested while it is still cold.
If eithe part shows good, the you will need to replace the defrost timer.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: defrost cycle not defrosting

Hi

Please check the defrost timer at the back of your refrigerator and also check the defrost thermostat. Defrost thermostat wiring(part #240) could be loose. You'll need to remove the back panel, held in place by 5 screws. Locate the defrost thermostat and disconnect it from the wire connection to another part. Due to the connection requirement, you may need to cut the wires from the original part and splice it with the connector with wires to the new part. After securing the spliced wires and covering in electrical tape, replace the panel and all the screws.

Please do rate this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Westinghouse Wse6100WA side by side Fridge-icing up/not cooling

This is a bad design flaw, the fridhe is cooled by fan forced air from the freazer. Two ducts vent into and out of the fridge fron the freezer and ice can block them up (which you can find if you take off all the plastic at the top and back of the fridge).
Hence, when they block up, the frindge does not cool, hence the thermostat tells the fridge to keep running which makes the freezer colder and colder, making the blockage worse.

You need to not only fully defrost the freezer (which can be done quicker by removing the plastic panel in the back of the freezer and using a hairdryer) BUT also fully dry the fridge before turning it back on.
To stop it happening again, avoid puting unvovered liquids or hot items in the fridge. Also avoid leaving the fridge and freezer doors open for long especially in humid conditions. As I said, it's a bad design.

CHECK AND SEE IF FAN IN FREEZER IS RUNNING, SOMETIMES YOU MUST DEPRESS DOOR SWITCH TO CHECK , IF IT IS THEN THE DEFROST TIMER OR THE DEFROST HEATER IS MORE THAN LIKELY THE CULPRIT THESE WOULD BE WORTH REPLACING BUT WOULD POSSIBLY REQUIRE A TECH , ALL DEPENDS IF YOU WISH TO TACKLE ,

Wards/Admiral refrig/freezer

I put the fridge in manual defrost by advancing the timer. The defrost heater worked so the problem was with the timer not advancing to defrost every 6 hours. The plastic gears wear out over time.
