I have plugged the camera into the charger. The LCD light is red.
I have tried to charge for 4 hours and still, the light is red and the camera will not turn on.
Any trouble shooting ideas.
I have never used the camera , which was a Christmas present.

you may have a bad charger connection at the camera, try wigglig it when you plug it in and see if the red light comes on. this problem is difficutt to fix, and expensive. If the light comes on and off while you are wiggling the cable near the camea, then that is your problem
The charging system for your camera is not a cable, it is a charger where you have to place the battery in the charger. It is black in color and slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes. Some of the chargers come with an adapter tip that changes the prongs to a straight round tip plug
The USB cable does charge the battery if plugged into pc. The red LED will light while charging and go off when the battery is charged. I cannot find any options to buy the software online but the Support email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Your problem is likely either the charger or a battery that's too worn out to take a charge. A constant red light on the charger indicates that the battery is charging, and a green light indicates that the charge is complete. If the green light never comes on, that's a good indication that the battery is beyond charging. If you have a voltmeter you can check the charger output and the battery voltage. Unfortunately your camera uses a special battery so there's no way to test the charger with another battery or to test the battery in another use. Replacing the battery, especially if it's more than a year old, is your best bet.
As Suzaku explained:
A battery icon will show up on the LCD screen of your camera when it is already low and needs recharging. It can be found at the lower right side of your LCD screen. The ready light of your camera will also blink red and your camera will turn off if the battery is exhausted.
The icon will not appear if the batery is sufficient and there is no TECH way of making the icon show until the batt needs charging.
This camera not charged via PC, you can charge the battery only with wall charger(comes with box). When camera is plugged to PC, you can´t use it as a camera, only as a memory card. You can watch your stuff in PC( PC recognise a camera as a flash memory, no more).
So, this is normal..Charge your camera with wall charger(Full charge Red light not flash!, if light flashed camera is charging) Unplug and use as usually!
There are 4 reasons why your unit is behaving this way: 1. Charger is the problem. 2. The docking station is the broken. 3. The battery is broken or not accepting charge. 4. The actual unit is the problem. It is very hard to tell which one is causing this to happen. Let us do some troubleshooting first: 1. Plug your charger in an A/C outlet and make sure the red power light (left) is lit, otherwise the charger or the docking station is broken. 2. You can test the charger with a multimeter. Unplug the charger from the docking station and measure the voltage across the outside and inside, it should register more than 5 volts DC. If there is a 5Volt DC the docking station is the problem otherwise the charger is broken. 3. If the red power light is lit and the status light (right) is lit too, your docking station is broken. 4. If the red power light is lit, dock the unit into the charger, the status light (left) should turn red when your battery is accepting charge or turn blue when your battery is fully charged. 5. If the status light will not lit at all (while the red power light is on), tap the screen while the unit is docked on the charger. If the unit will become alive, you need a new battery otherwise you need a new unit.
12 hours is very long time to charge, the status light should turn to blue in less than 2 hours especially for a new battery.
I believe your camera has a charger included. when you bought it. Battery type is li-ion battery (NP-40). You'll just need to remove the battery off the camera and plug it to the charger kit that came with it. Hope this helps :-)
