Frost is building in wine cooler

We have had one problem after another with this marvel wine cooler which is only 2 years old.   we had the compressor replaced and something else but now, it is frosting up inside leaving little room on the top to store drinks.  Do you know what to do about this?  am I supposed to be defrosting it like an old refridgerator...with hot water?   Many thanks,  Lee

Check the door seals to make sure they are sealing good this can cause high humidity. The unit also seems to be getting to cold check with another thermometer

Why does My marvel 61WCM wine fridge turn on but right away off again?

First make sure it is not plugged into an extension cord. Low voltage could cause this type of problem. If you have it plugged directly in ,It is probably the compressor or overload relay on the compressor. You can bypass the thermostat to see if it is the problem, by first unplugging the device, then removing the wires from the thermostat, and jumping them together. Then plug it in If it still acts the same way the problem is in the compressor or overload relay mounted on the compressor. Sometimes the relay can be purchased and replaced or a hard start might work solve your problem.

Wine cooler frost buildup

Some dual temperature wine coolers build up frost in the rear and top of the main compartment. Check the defrost timer, located either inside the main compartment near the light, or outside on the back of the wine cooler near the compressor. Look in the owner's manual for the correct settings for the defrost timer and adjust yours as needed. Make sure that you have the wine cooler in a spot where the outside temperature remains at or near room temperature to reduce frost buildup.

Light is on, temp is set to cool, but the unit is NOT cool. The unit is 10 years old.

as old as the unit is the compressor has most likley gone bad. For this size compressor the replacement should not cost that much. You can call an appliance repair shop and let them know you unit and that you need a new compressor installed they should be able to quote you a cost on replacement.
Good luck hope this helped

Marvel 61wc wine cooler turns on, but doesn't cool

If you can hear the compressor running and there is no cooling happening your unit has either lost it's refrigerant due to a leak or the compressor is completly worn out (or both). If you just hear the condenser fan running (air blowing), then maybe the compressor just has bad electricals (starting relay, overoad, run capactor) or it has developed a bad winding and will need to be replaced.

If you know you have lost refrigerant the repair will be quite costly and you should consider replacement. If you feel it is a failure of the small electrical parts for the compressor, repair would be more cost effective.

You can get further trouble-shooting assistance and order parts direct from the factory at 800-223-3900.

You can look up a local servicer on their web-site at

I have a client with a ten year old Marvel 24'' built in wine cooler, and the weater stripping is falling off. I can not find a model # anywhere. Derek

Dear Dereck,

Does your client have any idea how old the unit is? What do you mean by "weather stripping"? If you need a door gasket, all their 24" wide units (except ADA height) use the same gaskets. Part number 42241280 for the white and 42243906 for the black. You can order direct from the factory at 800-223-3900 (they are in EST in Michigan) should you need something else, describe the unit to their customer service personnel and they should be able to assist you. I have the Marvel 70 bottle wine cooler and it is making loud whining noise like if you put a stick in the wheel of spinning bike spokes when it is cooling down sometimes. it does not seem to be the fan...

I believe the 6SBAR has an evaporator fan located behind the evaporator plate ( the cooling plate) inside the unit. They had some issues with the bearings in those fans failing and will sound like a small jet engine sometimes (high pitched whine). When you hear the noise, open the door and if the noise level changes (either gets louder or goes away) then it is the evaporator fan. If your noise is coming from the compressor area and does not change when you open the door, it is most likely the condenser fan blade is loose. The evaporator fan looks like a small computer cooling fan and is located near the bottom center of the evaporator plate (out of site). The factory sells a replacement kit with a much better fan and new power supply. You can reach them at 800-223-3900. Good-luck.

Marvel wine refrigerator running, but not cooling

If your unit runs but does not cool, you have a "sealed system" issue. Either you are low on refrigerant which would be evident by frost build-up near the area where the freon first enters the evaporator plate. (lower middle, then travels left) or the compressor has lost the ability to develop the necessary differential pressure. You do not want to run the unit like can **** in contaminants that will harm the compressor if you already haven't. You should contact a servicer to get it repaired. If you are still within the warranty period you should contact the dealer you got it from to initiate service.

I truly doubt the control is the faulty component. It has two inputs it uses to decide when to cycle the compressor.

1) the potentiometer with the control dial is connected to terminals # 6 and 7.
2) the thermsitor is connected to terminals # 4 and 5.

Most of the time it is the thermistor that has failed. Marvel Part number 42244531.

You can order it directly from the factory by calling 800-428-6644

Marvel model 61WC Wine cooler

If the unit was made after 2000, there is a solid state control in the back that you can test. If it was made before then, it will have capillary tube style thermsotat that you can test.
Made after 2000:
First, pull the unit out to access the back lower area and disconnect the power. Remove the lower backing to access the mechanical area. There will be 2-inch square back box with seven terminals and 4 dip switches. Disconnect the red and black wires from terminals # 3 and 2 respectively and connect them together (this bypasses the control). Plug the unit in...if it runs you need a part of or all parts of the control.

Made before 2000. With power disconnected, remove the front grill to get access to the thermostate (usually on the right side). It will have up to three wires connected to it and a sensing line. Leave the green (ground) wire as is (if connected), disconnect the other two wires and connect them together or run a jumper. Plug the unit in...if it runs then you need a new thermostat (only one part).

If the compressor does not run but the condenser fan does...something is wrong with the compressor.

You can also call the factory at 800-428-6644 and ask for technical assistance. They can assist you with further troubleshooting and/or finding a servicer near you. They should still have parts to repair that unit.
