Recently picked up a used Homelite ST 125 gas trimmer from a sweet little old lady that had only used it 3 or 4 times. It looks new and runs outstanding. I tried to replace the string but could not loosen the bump and feed cover. Seems like the bolt built into the cover may have been previously overtightened. How can I get this loose? Dis not get a manual so I'm not sure if this model has a left or right handed thread? Another question, could it cause a problem to use only a single line on a dual line trimmer?

The way to tell whether it is a right or a left hand thread is to pull the starter rope and see which way the head turns. That is the direction you should turn the line dispenser to loosen and remove it to reload the line. Sometimes these get very tight and need a lot of torque to get started. You could call the Homelite technical support line to find out the single/dual line question. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please contact me.

Any special procedures to starting an old ST-175 homelite weed trimmer that has not been run on over 8 years.

the carb and fuel lines will most likely need repair, i would mix a little extra 2 stroke oil in the gas on the first run, and a few drops 2 stroke oil in the cylinder is a good idea..oh and you might want to check the spark arrester on the muffler .. jay

Gas is leaking, I think its the little plastic gasline thats cracked thats attached to the the gas tank itself, if so, where can I find a new replacement gasline to repair it?

All small engine repair shops carry the lines you need and you may even be able to pick up a fuel line "kit" complete with fuel filter and fuel lines at your Home Depot. They carry many parts and accesories for Ryobi and Homelite trimmers.

What is the gas and fuel mixture for a homelite st-185 weed eater

If it's not been started for that long, ensure that any remaining crud in the tank and fuel lines is cleaned out before even attempting to start it.

Put in a NEW plug, then mix up some 50:1 mix of unleaded and good synthetic 2-stroke oil (Sthil or similar). This will produce an almost smoke-free exhaust, and won't foul the plug.

If it does start, be prepared for LOTS of smoke initially, as all the old oil from inside the engine burns off.

Homelite gas trimmer will not run without half choke and throttle

You need to disassemble the carb. and spray with carb. cleaner. If you need tips on how to do this, just let me know. You may need a new carb. kit as well, but we won't know that until you first perform the first step, or if the carb. parts are more than 3 years old. If they are, then go ahead and buy the carb. kit and replace the parts.
