All programmable windows and displays seem to be coming up black. Any menu system is impossible to read much less navigate. Having read the manual a while back, I believe the suggestion was to leave the unit unplugged for an extended period of time, which I've done on multiple occasions. Anyone else have another suggestion to offer?

Please fallow bellows instruction to retune your TV. Could you please follow that EEPROM RESET INSTRUCTION OR FIRST TME INSTALLATION. Also please don’t forget that MENU BUTTON from your remote, it’s not the one in the middle of remote. There are the other MENU BUTTON in left down bottom side. Cannot access Digital TV and am asked for a Lock code Key? If you cannot access the Digital TV option then conduct an EEPROM RESET as mentioned above. If you are prompted to enter a lock code key enter three / four zeros. Alternatively when prompted to enter the lock code key conduct a FIRST TIME INSTALLATION also mentioned above. There are two options available. The first option is to conduct a general reset that will reset all user preferences. The second option would be to conduct an EEPROM RESET. An EEPROM RESET would reset all the internal hardware.

Follow these instructions to tune in channels.picture Digital Television requires much more from existing aerial systems. Having more than one digital TV may reduce signal quality and strength depending on how the aerial system is set up. It is therefore recommended that if you decide to use more than one digital television you use a booster and or at least make sure you are using a digital ready aerial. Using an existing Aerial that is split may reduce signal strength depending on how many times it is split. Please see the diagram below. The best solution when using an existing aerial is to purchase a booster device. Aerial Splitting - Why a booster is recommended. A booster is used to apply a small current that boosts the existing signal. A booster can be purchased from all main TV/HI-FI - consumer electronic product retailers.
I hv philips 21RF vardaan TV ,there is sound on AV channel. and the picture is blinking. even some menu setting have changed.. i tried using the service menu but cudnt understand anything. 2 new av channels have come.. av2 and front which were not present before. sound is not coming even on the other channels but picture is fine on them. only on the av1 channel it is blinking., the philips technision had solved this prob once by pressing some code by remote and i don't know the system code
Note that the large black box goes away when pushing buttons on the tv (ex: the black box will disappear to show the volume setting when changing the volume on the tv but it will cover the picture and the menu display of the dtv box).
This is caused by the closed caption setting of the television set NOT the captioning of the converter box. To fix this you must open your television's menu, find the ccd/closed caption option, and turn it off. This is a frustrating problem as when most people are told to shut off the captioning they try to do so at the box.
Normal dtv box captioning will appear as a small text box at the bottom of the screen as you would expect - not as a giant black rectangle that covers most of the screen. If you do want to shut this off too you will find that you can't do it through the usual menu options (the menu will only allow changes to font, color etc.) - there should be a ccd button on the remote that when pushed will scroll through ccd-1, ccd-2,... off.
It sounds as though the closed captioning has some how gotten turned on. Not all programs are closed caption supported so the box will not show on every channel nor will it necessarily be on the same channel all day. Go into the menu on the tv and ensure the CC option is turned off. You may have to go into set up or preferences to locate the CC portion of the menu. I hope this assists you and thank you for using Fix Ya. If I can assist you further please let me know.
This could possibly be an issue with closed captioning. While some closed captioning is a marquee-type text near an edge of the display, your television may have an option turned on to display a different channel of captioning that would likely display a large black box on your screen if there is no data to display. This would explain why this would take place suddenly at the same time each night, as well as why pressing the display button would cause it to disappear.I suggest you look into your menu to try turning this option off, then watch the channel you normally watch at this time.If this does not resolve the situation, I recommend you contact your manufacturer’s product support line.
on some sets you can push both the channel up and down buttons to access the menu, then use them and the volume buttons to navigate the menu. otherwise you may have to get a programmable remote control.
